Just wondering if anyone had ever messed with putting a hand throttle on their puller. As most of ya know im a paraplegic so I gotta use my hands to control everything. As you can imagine it can get a little hectic sometimes when im pullin/drag racin. Hold the brakes to build boost at the line, give it fuel, hold the steering wheel, lock/unlock the converter at the right time, and occasionaly depending on the track/sled maybe have to reach over and change gears. Might not sound like a whole lot, but sometimes i feel like im gonna go crazy in there:hehe: Anyways ive been thinking a lot about how I could make it easier on myself. I was thinking like a "dead man" throttle like you see on a lot of the profarm tractors. Then have my lockup switch, and push button shifting on the throttle as well, so I could just do it all with my right hand, and just use my left hand to hold the brake at the line, and to control the wheel while im pullin. Just thought I might see if anyone had any pics or anything of a similar set up, or had any experience in rigging one up.

Thanks
Josh:woohoo:

i will have to get pictures of my buddys truck thats getting built now with a hand throttle.
And i bet it can be crazy in there

you prolly look it up i think its a scheid's kit but you have to make the mounts for it but it comes with the handle and the cable to make it work

Josh, I've been brainstorming this idea for the past couple years. I've kinda got a decent idea how to do it, I think. I was trying to figure out how I could run a pullin tractor and run each brake, and the clutch individually. It would be a mess of airlines, and trying to mount the switches would be a PITA...

What about rigging up a set of hand controls, and turning them on there side, so all you have to do is pull the throttle lever towards your body, and that would run your throttle, then by pushing forward would be your brake?? Then just run your switch with in reach of your thumb, kinda like they do for turn signals on some hand controls?

Colesanti has a hand throttle on his. Some of the organizations might put you in another class.

We have one on our truck. I will try and get a picture and post it up. Pretty simple to make actually.

Josh might be able to get some sort of exemption since he can't use a regular pedal setup. Prob have to be taken care of in advance though.

That's what I would think...I know if I was at a pull and a guy in a wheelchair get's DQed for a hand throttle I'd be PISSED!

I guess if they throw a fuss, just throw your feet on the skinny pedal and go till she blows!! :D :D :D

Now that, would be fun to watch:hehe:

"Why didn't you let off?"

"I couldn't move...must've been the adrenaline rush;)"

Good luck guys.

I wouldnt think they would give me any fuss about it if they knew i was a paraplegic. If they did we'll just get the ADA involved:hehe:
