Hard starts or no starts?

I have an 01 cummins and lately its been having heavy starts or it wont start at all. I just put new battery clamps on their and it worked good for a while. Is this just bad batteries or just a bad alternator???
 
proly bad batteries and its proly not that there bad there just old and weak with the cold nights it will really were a old battery down.
 
I also have it while im glowing the truck the lights inside the cab will flicker twice. Is this normal for bad batteries of what?
 
like the likes come on and go off a couple of times? or the lights just dim and get brighter? if they are just dimming and getting brighter this completely normal because it is just the heater grid cycling on and off and it draws abunch of power from the batteries.
