A guy told me that he had seen a dodge with a 5speed that had some sort of aftermarket overdrive or something in the tranny. The way he described it sounded like a two speed rearend in dump truck. He did say there was a red button on the side of the shifter. I've never seen or heard anything like this on this forum or anywhere else.
I think he might be confused but i don't know.
Have any of yall ever heard of such?
I don't know if it's even posible or not thats the reason i ask.
Thanks and don't think i'm crazy, just wondering.
Thanks,Stephen

Sounds like someone saw an old BD exhaust brake switch and let their imagination get the best of them :bang

I would LOVE to have a splitter in the rear end like my bigger trucks. That would be too cool and too functional. I'm really surprised that no one (to my knowlede) makes a two speed rear end for a 1-ton axle. I've heard a lot about the over/under drives but nothing about two speed axles. I guess you'd have to pick whether you'd want the front axle to match the high speed or the low speed.?.? Things to ponder....as in "think about" not as in that west Texas wacko. :hehe:

The old gear vendors had a red button that looked just like a 2 speed rearend splitter knob. A buddy of mine has one in an 85 f350 with a 4spd and it makes towing alot easier. Once you get the hang of it it can shift pretty seamless.

A friend of mine has one in his 95 3500 V10 with the Nv4500. I believe its 1:1 and 30% overdriven. It can be used to split gears though, just like a 2spd rearend. And has the little red Knob on the shifter just like the 2spd rear ends I have driven. I'm not sure if it is a gearvendor or a US gear though. I'll have to check next time I see it. Maybe it still has a tag on it. I'll try and remember the camera too.

A gear vendors is pretty much like a 2 speed axle, you can split gears with it and it drops the overall rpm tremendously. And yes they have the red knob that bolts to the shifter of the transmission.

I just finished up installing one on a 97 Powerstroke with an E40d auto, they work a lil different with the auto, it has a floor high beam switch they use to engage the overdrive at around 30+mph and a manual mode in which you can start out in first gear and split each gear even with the automatic, but it's not very practical with an auto, but with a 5/6spd is nice.

This truck with 4:10's would run 2700rpm @80mph and with the Gear vendors overdrive it puts it @ 2000rpm going 80mph

I think a 02 HO 2wd with that and 3.31 gears would be incredible. Fuel mileage would be insane along with the top speed.

Okay, so there is such a thing. thanks for the input. It's nice to know that even the oddest questions can be answerd on here.

Thanks guy's,Stephen

u can use a divorced transfer case with aftermarket goodies to make a splitter too...
