have a 5.9 crank question

I am rebuilding a 12v 5.9 cummins and I am using a block from a 24v truck do I need to use my 12v crank or is the one in the 24v block the same.
 
You can use either but if you use the 24v make sure to remove the tone ring if it has one. They have been known to come off
 
Oh ok oops I remember using a 12v crank in a CR and having gear issues! I didn't know the 24v VP used the same gear.
