Hey guys,

I'll start off by saying thanks for all the great info and awesome sight, not meaning to kiss @ss or anything. I've been a long time Lerker but never made an account until now.

So I'll get to the point, I bought my truck in January. PO said he put a "built" trans in but couldn't really tell me much about it. I have been fixing all the little issues with this thing since I got it and it's time to deal with the trans issues.

My problems are,1. I have a bad torque converter shudder. It will almost rattle your teeth out sometimes. Now my other complaint is when I'm on the throttle hard and I get to about 2200 or so rpm it's like the truck cuts out and pops into neutral. Let off and you can feel it kick back into gear and you can go again. Also if I give it more the the shudder goes away usually.

The only mods I know it has is the gm gov. Pressure solenoid, billet apply lever and it shifts like it has a shift kit.

I am going to be ordering a billet tripple disk just so I know what I have and to hopefully solve that issue but what about the other one? I have asked everybody with no prevail so I've come to the experts. Any advice on diagnosis? I have a scan tool(OTC genesis)no codes or anything. Any tips or walkthroughs on pressure testing this thing?

Whose TC you buying? Whoever it is, ask them about it. I'd suggest Goerends. Call and talk to Craig. Tell him what it's doing, what you want to do with it, and where you are and I'm sure he can get you fixed up.
 
sounds like you may have internal transmission problems. thats is exactly what mine was doing when it burnt the forward clutch pack out.
 
If the TC has been shuttering for awhile then you most likely damaged the internalls of the tranny.
 
Best to just tear it down and find out. At least that way you know what you have, like you said. Master rebuild kits are fairly cheap anyway. I'm guessing the going in and out of gear is actually the TC slipping like crazy.
 
Well sounds like What I was planning for, I'll be going with DTT as I'm in Canada and have heard lots of good things about them, I already picked up a DTT tripple disk for a smokin deal so I'll probably just order there master kit and some billet goodies to complement it with.

Thanks for all the help so far, there will be more in the future when the compounds are getting set-up I'm sure.
 
So the only thing I'm hung up on now, is why does it not slip or shudder more in lock-up when I accelerate harder?
 
Ok guys, more to the story. Hooked the scan tool to it and found that my governor pressure is 50psi below target, what will cause this? It has the gm gov solenoid upgrade. Haven't had time to do any other testing with a manual guage
 
Interesting, as I also have the GM upgrade(billet from Alligator).
 
Sorry, I've not yet put it on a scanner. My trans has been down since '09 so I may not be the best advisor LOL I twisted a billet input and billet output shaft, my luck with auto's is not great..

drop the pan and there is a screw on the valve body to adjust line pressure. bump the pressure up but becare not to go to high. my truck would go into limp-in mode.

Sounds like it is low on fluid.
Does it have a deep pan with a lowered filter? If not, with it warm, is the fluid level at the full line, idleing in neutral?
 
Nope stock pan, fluid is good, clean as can be, had the pan off and was all good, bands were adjusted correctly, with lots of adjustment room to go.

Thanks for all ideas, should I try a new gov pressure solenoid or am I wasting time and money and should just rebuild it?
