So I see alot of intrest in the he351ve since it flows good air and is a variable geometry turbo. I also see some people looking at the he351.

I may be wrong (please correct me if I am) but I think both of these turbos share the same compressor wheel, correct?

The he351 uses a 9 cm housing like the he341 and hy35 so spool is very quick but can cause high egt's.

The he351ve uses a vgt housing and can go from around 4cm to 26cm (internet measured anyway).

The he351 is basicly a bolt on turbo with a little bit of fab work required but its fairly straight forward.

The he351ve however takes some basic fab work along with a special flange and a way to control it. We are just now seeing guys get into it and work with homemade mechanical controllers, they seem to work ok but noone seems to be totally in love with them yet ( I know electronics would make them awsome) but they do seem to like them.

So with all the work needed to make the he351ve work do you think its worth it? Would you rather just get the he351 and almost have a bolt on that just works? or does it get too hot?

I guess what I am wondring is, is it worth it for someone to come up with an easily adjustable control system for the vgt holsets?

Lets hear some thoughts

I know I would certainly be willing to be a BETA tester :D :poke:

In all seriousness though, I'm pretty darn happy with my set up right now. It just didn't do so well in the mountains though due to poor tuning for the elevation. Ran great once I got it figured out (which was the last day I was there ). Just picked up a three gauge pillar mount, so I'm going to be adding a drive pressure gauge to aid in any further tuning.

I was a little worried about the exhaust side on my HE351cw being a restriction, but after swapping from my HX40 to the HE351cw and seeing my EGT's take a good bit longer to reach the peg, along with spool time being a lot better, then I figured it cant be hurting flow too much since the HX40 should have a pretty decent flowing exhaust side.

I thought about the HE351ve, but making an adapter, and controller to control the wastegate, and mount the turbo for what I would imagine is about the same spoolup and performance of the HE351cw just didnt seem worth it to me. I dont imagine the exhaust side is really flowing much better on the 351ve than the 351cw, but its hard to say.

Im definately not knocking anyone who is running the 351ve, but it just seems like more work and time tuning it for the same performance as the 351cw which is a little more of a bolt on charger.

I always take the road less traveled (see my sig) I can tell you first hand its cool at first then it gets to be a pain in the ass. :)

I really like the he351 in the twin set. Spool up is good and a simple turbo to work with. Till someone figures out how to control the housing fairly easy on the ve it's probably above the head of a simple guy like myself.
