I went to change my headlight switch out today and found the plug was a little melted. I heard somewhere, probably here, that there was a recall on dodge 3500s and I can just go to the dealer and get the plug and harness. Is this true and if so what do I need to tell them was it a certain year. Hope you can help! Thanks for looking.

Here's the recall notice...

Recall 819

I'm not sure what the dealer will do/say. There are alternatives like Rock Auto and others that sell the plug and all of the required parts.

What I found is the 94-97 Dodge 3500 had a Customer Satisfaction Notification #819. There is a similar one for the 94-97 Dodge 1500 and 2500 under Notification #820. It is called a trailer tow wiring harness and relay package. See if this is what you need.

Mine was done under warranty, probably around '97 I think. After market switches can be had with a new harness pigtail connector. My recall also included a relay in the harness.

Sweet, Mine melted as well I will see if I can get it fixed for free that would be great. It would be almost as cool as driving at night with lights.

I smelled a melting plastic last night on the way to work. Sniff tracked it back to the headlight switch. Anyone have any luck with getting them dealer fixed?

If not, does anyone have part number for replacement switches/relays or a better way to wire in a fix? I was wanting to upgrade to sport lights anyways.

Well bought my kit for $155. If you have a 3500 in that year range they should fix it.
