I know this has been talked about before, but im wanting to upgrade my lights. My question is: What is the best bang for the buck upgrade for my lights. Im tired of driving at nite and feeling like i would do better with my flash light!

By the way i got an 01.

I would want HID high and low though. That would be kick ass!

Mine are high and low, the lows are sufficient, and the highs do kick some ass

the only difference is, the low beam the bulb is out and the high pulls the bulb in to make them shine higher and farther, but they still rock

we have the same lights as in the link above. POS's .... do not , i repeat do not go with that style light. just speaking from experience.

yeah because it's between mine and yours?? what gives...... the retro kit is top of the line.....

Im in need of better lighting myself. I run with high beams and still can see sh!t. Could i do that polish stuff and sling me some hids in there? Would it help? Or should i buy whole new assembly.

the ebay specials on MD-LUCKY's truck. We put Silverstars in the gf's but still couldn't see sh**. That definate line is the most annoying thing in the world. I'm sure it's better with HID's but the fit was horrible. Once we got the low beams set-up to where you can actually see good the high beams were shooting to the stars. I had a bud have good luck with the single style bulb.

If you click the link that I posted earlier, you will get most of the details. A lot of the information is my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

HID light was never intended for a factory lamp, and you will get mixed results (at best). The light will be there. You WILL have better visability. However, you will also get a lot of scatter from the factory lamps. Here are some picture examples that should help explain it better:

Factory lamps with HID kit:

Aftermarket lamps that use a projector housing instead of a reflector. You can use regular bulbs, but an HID kit in these housings will work much better:

Now, which of those 2 options would pass Idaho's definition for a glaring light (infraction violation)?

As a practical means of determining whether head lamps or auxiliary driving or fog lamps glare the following test shall apply: Any such lamp shall be deemed to be glaring if any part of the main beam strikes the body of a person, vehicle, screen or other object higher than the lamp centers twenty-five (25) feet or more ahead of the vehicle and in no event shall the main bright portion of the beam be higher than forty-two (42) inches at a distance of seventy-five (75) feet ahead of the vehicle.

That is the main reason for switching to the aftermarket headlights if you want to run HIDs, in my humble opinion. I may still get a ticket, but I at least have some arguement if I end up in court, and it is pretty easy to show where the cut-off line for my headlights is (and mine are adjusted in accordance with Idaho law... but I may be hosed either way in other states).

In my humble opinion, the HID kits are a great way to give you more light. They will be brighter, and you will see better. But, they can cause glare to other drivers, and if the glare is severe enough you might end up talking to Johnny Law about it. There are also folks that retrofit expensive reflectors into their factory headlamps from vehicles with HIDs from the factory (like Acura TLs, Prius, Caddys, etc). If you are mechanically inclined and don't mind spending the extra money, this is probably the best option. I'd list them as:

Best: Retro-fit using factory high-end components.
Mo Gooder: Aftermarket projector headlamps using aftermarket HID kits.
Gooder: High quality halogen bulbs in clean, properly adjusted headlights.
Okay: HID kits in factory lights.
Un Good: cheap halogen bulbs in old nasty lights.

I think you will be very happy with an HID kit, but you run the risk of getting hassled for them, and they will never have the nice, crisp cut-off line of a projector housing (no matter how high quality the kit is).

I will respectfully disagree, with several reason posted above.

I do agree with the fit issues. I tried to fix mine as best as possible with some extra trim. I'm happy with the look now.

they look good, i agree, we get compliments on them all the time. But if you can't pull up to a stop sign and read the steet sign/name they're no good in my book. The single bulb design is much better, imho. Just look at the cr lights, they work great.

I also have to agree there. On low beam, the light patter is below most street signs/stop signs.

Luckily, out here in the boonies of Idaho I generally have the high beams on when I'm driving outside of the city (in the city most signs have street lamps around them that give enough light).

I actually wired my HIDs to stay on all of the time, and the halogens to come on over the top of them when the high beams are on. The halogens fill everything above (I can see just as far, if not further with this setup as I could with the HID kit), so the visibility is amazing. I wanted to have the HIDs on at all times due to the fact that they take a few moments to warm up if they haven't been on for a while. It is a 100% realistic possibility that I could drive through most areas with the high beams on for a good hour to 2 hours without ever seeing another person (or coming to another town). If all of a suddent I need to click down from high beams to low beams, and the HIDs haven't been on for that entire time, they may not be warmed up enough to give adequate light. By having them on 100% of the time, I never have to worry about that.

I checked Idaho law and I'm good having 4 beams on at once when on high beam, but other state laws may be different..

I need to get some driving pictures with the new setup like I had with the HID kit setup. The light is much better with the projector lamps. Also, the projectors give a MUCH wider beam pattern, so you can see off the side of the road a lot further. That is great for me, since we seem to have a high number of depressed and suicidal deer in our area.

the light in the aftermarket housings sucked at first, but once I got them adjusted and all, I couldn't be happier.........they are great! like I said before the best money I have spent

I bought 5K 35W HID kits off HIDWAREHOUSE ebay page... bought two single filiment sets and installed a set of Sport headlights with two bulb sockets per headlamp and I can freakin SEEEEEE!!!!!

You can buy these HID kits for $41 each ($82) total... plus $159 for the sport headlights and a total of $240 you can light up EVERYTHING infront of you!!
