help please

Hi i'm new on here and need some help i was looking at a 98.5 with the 24 valve in it and the guy selling it told me if when you shut it off the tac is not working you have to use startin fluid to get it to start and this dose not sound right to me and all sounds like a fuel problem to me can someone please help me thanks

nope...not right at all.....i would not be anywhere near it if he's using starting fluid with the grid heater hooked up :bang....and if you have to use starter fluid to start it then keep looking....unless he's selling it really cheap

get a code reader and check it for codes....

sounds to me it has a VP and or LP out and if the tach is not working it may be a CPS

Run from that truck.

It probably needs a minimum of a VP.. And if he is using starting fluid on it, then it probably isn't getting the attention it needs anywhere else, either.

I would continue to shop and look around.

It would have to be REALLY CHEAP! what were you gonna use it for? On a VP (24v) truck sooner or later you'll need: lift pump $50-$500, VP $1000-$2500, gauges $?, if it has an auto $1000-$7000 in rebuild/upgrades, +"normal" service like any other vehicle. If this is a toy you'll prolly replace the "problem" parts with hipro ones anyway, for a DD get a 12v or a CR.

I Just replaced my vp at a cost of $1050. Steer clear of that truck. There are more good trucks out there for sale. Mine is for sale pretty cheap as we speak.
