i just got trans rebuilt a couple weeks ago with the help of a member.

i got a DTT TC and suncoast VB from a buddy, bought my rebuild kit and other accessorizes from HTS. billet input from OPIE.

the instructions i got from marianne say to put a 1/4 watt resistor on the red wire in the VB. i did that. still had 2nd and 3rd gear starts when warm.

so today i install another 1/4watt resistor on the orange wire(pin 31) on the middle connector (the white one). this didnt help either.

my buddy that gave me the VB said i should have put that resistor in the vb, since he never had to.

would this make a difference?

any other ideas? did i put the resistor on the wrong wire?

also how bad is it taking off in 2nd and 3rd gear with heavy throttle?

thanks
brian

Don't do 2nd or 3rd gear starts!!!! you'll burn your clutches faster than you can imagine!!

I would put a DTT voltage regulator on the orange wire with black tracer so that you can control the voltage going to the governor pressure solenoid. You can call Tim Barber @ TRE Diesel and he'll send you one out right away.

The other thing you can check is to see if you have voltage going to the transmission relay in the fuse box. Pull your 5 pin trans relay and check to see if the voltage is the same at the relay as it is at your battery. You want to check this with the truck turned off with the key in the on position.

check your linkage on the side of the tranny it controls the pressure in the tranny by giving it more pressure as more throttle is given if it is not correct meaning if it is giving it pressure sitting still you will start out in 2nd gear. and yes you will burn the transmission to the ground by driving it while starting out in second. it wont take long!

Are you pulling codes?
I would put a scanner on it. Hook a guage up to your gov pressure port. Make sure it's not set stupid high, you may need to knock the pressure down. If it's not crazy high, then just keep the scanner on it when you put your resister(s) in. Push comes to shove you can always buy the governor pressure solenoid that allows for higher pressure. Just make sure it's not doing something crazy with governor pressure before anything.

i think i pulled a 1762, gov pressure too high or too low.

i called suncoast they said to pull out both resistors then go from there. they said their VB is made to run without resistors. does this sound right?

I don't know about suncoast but I would take there word on it, but get it fixed before you trash the trans.

yeah, i feel guilty now for driving it like that:bang

i just got finished pulling the resistor out the VB. will drive it tomorrow and see if its any better.

thanks for the responses:Cheer:

Got it.

i used 630ohms worth of resistors to get my voltage to 4.5. no more 3rd gear starts

cost about $2 worth of resistors. 3 -100ohm's and 1-330ohm. with just the 3-100's it was at like 4.8, then i added the 330 it dropped to 4.5v.

What wire did you tap into?

the orange wire, pin 31 on the middle connector(the white one) behind the air filter on the firewall.

Just the plain ordinary orange wire 5v reference? I messed around with a potentiometer on that wire and still couldn't fix it. I just gave up and backed down gov pressure. I must have been doing something wrong.

yes, you want it to be around 4.5v after the resistor.

It was awhile ago, but when I did it....
The more I increased the resistance, the more voltage went up. I obviously was doing something wrong. I no longer have the truck, so the tinkering around with is long done. I shouldn't have been drinking so much.
