Help!!

I was running DJs Looney tune for over a year now. Tranny started shifting ruff mainly between 1st and 2nd gear, sometimes 2nd to 3rd(tranny flares and then snaps into next higher gear) When back to stock the problem dissapeared so I didn't really care and kept the looney running accepting Id have to deal with the hard shifts until I could afford to get a better tranny. With DJs now closed I decided to get tunes from Eric over at Innovative so as to build a new relationship with a vendor who would be able to tune after reflahses lol (obviously). I bought the xtreme race, xtreme street and street. I was hoping the tranny problem would be taken care of with the new tunes - but when the xtreme race file went in ... well it is pretty damn ugly.

When running the xtreme race - the truck bites like hell if you romp on it from dead stop (WOT), accelerates perfect - revs up to a bout 4200 shifts into 2nd....2nd revs up pretty high also and then its almost like the truck decides to go into 5th gear...or like its defueling...total power loss...if you keep your foot on the pedal it feels like it might jump back into 3rd then 5th then 4th, 5th, 3rd...completely random shifting if you get my point. I ran it about 5 times and got the same weird reaction every time. Pulled over, loaded in xtreme street....1st,2nd were fine and strong - then half way up 3rd same thing happens. Both tunes are very tempermental when cruising at about 30mph and romping on it....half the time it downshifts properly...other times it almost upshifts and barely pulls. The new tunes are def. very powerful, you can feel the more torque and pull in first and second gear, and the turbo lag has been greatly reduced as well - whats weird is with the Looney tune my 3-5 shifting had no problems and my 1-2 shift were problem areas, now it is reversed....?????WTF is going on!??

I want to stress that I am not bad mouthing the tunes, or blaming them - but just worried about my transmission.

Any Input....is my transmission smoked??

Sent him an e-mail tonight - I am sure he will get back to me tomorrow or Monday at the lastest...I am just distraught and was trying to get some input from guys with much more knowledge than me on here with hopefully good news that it could be someonething electronic and not mechanical...

anything is possible..I would just wait and see what eric says..it may just be a simple adjustment in the tune..

My truck has had a hard 2-3 shift since it rolled off the dealers lot, and with a hot file its only amplifed.

When you flash the truck back to stock, does it flare during shifting? If it does, I think you have some issues.

Have you changed the tranny filters? These things are very sensitive to debris in the solenoids. Also, the change is because Eric locks your TC when it shifts into 3rd I believe on the Extreme files.

No, I havn't changed the tranny filters, my truck only just hit 25k miles this week...I had it in to check out the initial problem with hard shifting aroun 15k miles and they supposidly flushed it then, but who knows...guess it wouldnt hurt to get it done. Eric thought it sounded like its the direct drive, and thought I changed some of the optional parameters which I didn't....so waiting to hear what he thinks now.

Mine did the same thing before it requred another rebuild. It started as a slight flare and worked its way up to a D-R or R-D delay, then a little slippage between shifts at 3/4 + throttle.
When I removed the SCT file things got better so I drove tune free for about 2 months. Driving tune free was nothing more than a band-aid, by the time it started showing symptoms, it was too late.
My problem was fluid contamination caused by the original dealer not changing the external filter after the first rebuild.
Hopefully you can get away with a fluid/filter/solenoid change but since that's already been done, IMO you are throwing good money after bad.
If the problem is the snap ring or reverse planetary assy. like I had, you will need to replace or rebuild the unit

aghh...I just bought a Harley in August...no $ to buy or build a tranny now...sounds like I am up $hits creek with no paddle.

Yes I am still under warranty...who knows if the dealership will honor it or not...the shop manager previously was into diesels and told me he would always take care of me, seeing as how I also bought the truck at the dealer - he left. The lead diesel mechanic was a great guy also - type of guy who said if I ever had injector or gasket problems to hand him an aftermarket set and studs and he would do it all under warranty (didnt matter to him if he had the engine ripped up whether hed be putting stock or aftermarket parts in) but he also left the shop a couple months ago and I do not know where he went either.

I am going to put it to stock and hope it shows minor symptoms - I have a feeling the dealer wont do any solenoids etc. under warranty if it is only happening when programmed...

i've been having shifting problems for a little while too...when tuned it feels like it engages twice at each shift..usually pretty harsh, even at mild throttle.....Eric wrote me another tune that changed the convertor lock up...that didn't help much...back to stock and I get an occasional flare when going to 3rd..mines on it's way out...it's not even fun to run hard now...i hope you get yours worked out soon...good luck..

Mines back to stock now - having the same exact problem. I think I am going to head down to MD in the spring and visit Eric...get an NADP put in and have him tune it in person all at the same time...Im sick of always worrying about this BS - wana be able to romp on it and not become sick.

Dealership had it for a week. Took it for a ride with a mechanic, and was able to produce the symptoms stock and then showed it to him programmed also. They sent it out to a sister dealership where the "transmission specialist" worked. They took a look at it, 77 miles later they were unable to reproduce the symptoms. Checked all the lines for pressure, no codes being thrown. Offered to take the pan down and look at it for chippings, on my dime of course - I told them to forget about it...what the F is going on...how could the tranny be this messed up and have them not be able to find anything wrong with it...

Yep...told me I would be better off to blow it up...worst advice they could have given... so now the question is...

What is the easiest way to blow my transmission up that will cause the least amount of damage?

^^^^^^

:hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe::hehe:

In my post of, what guages actually needed, they said pulling a 747 would not be wise, power braking bad to.

I'm now having the same problem as Rob. I have an 04 with 38,000 mi. I have a bullydog on extreme. The problem goes away if I run the truck stock...Does anyone have anyother ideas? Thanks

My tranny will flare 3-4 on Extreme Street only when cold. After warming up it's fine. Truck has 26k on the odometer.

I'm basically just waiting to rebuild it with a Suncoast and then not worry about it.
