I am needing help finding the ss number on my motor. I am looking about doing upgrades and i am trying to see which rods i have.:bang

what year is the truck...best way to tell is check the inspection hole

I would check the hole to be 100% sure. The engine SN tag is on the pass side of the motor IIRC. I think it is on the valve cover. It looks like this.

Start of production thru 1425746 are Forged Rods
1425747 thru 1440712 are Powdered Rods
1446713 thru 1498318 are Forged Rods
1498319 thru final production run are all powdered

That really is a crap shoot. As a rule most people say the threshold is about 400rwhp. After that things tend to break, but it is not just a cut and dry hp threshold. It also has a lot to do with how it is driven, especially when the motor is cold. There are exceptions to everything. Dennis from ITPDiesel has about 200,000 miles on a 450rwhp PMR motor IIRC.

Thanks southpaw. I have the edge evolution II, cold air intake(homemade), dual 4" stacks (hoping to replace with 5's or 6's). I am planning on some injectors and upgrading the turbo housing and wheel. Do you think 75hp or 100hp injector would be better?
:Cheer:

you have pmrs with a 02...you need to ditch the evo...it only hurts your trans...do stage two single shot injectors with custom tunes and you will be around 400horse wich is all your rods can handle

in that cas no you will be okay...I ran the evo for 5k wiles and now have custom tunes..night/day diffrence

my order of sugestion would be powerhungry performance, gearhead, beans, wildman, swamps, bts, dp tuner...dp is not to friendly with the pmrs I hear but all the other choices are very close to each other

:rockwoot: Thats right on!

id say you have pmr's too. i would go with some swamps single shot stage one injectors and have him tune it also. i would stay with those two hp mods if you want to keep your motor alive for very long. i had 375rwhp with those to mods and blew my hg so i had to stud my 7.3 but after that it ran good and 375 was more than enough to have fun with!
