hey guys i have a 12valve 5spd 410 gears and 6 33inch sts have a s400 on truck with some 5x18s and a worked 12mm pump suppose to be 700cc idont see that south bend dd any way how much hp needed to run 4 low ive been use 2nd high if i get 4th the truck be gone i dont want to change my 4.10s

go to some 5x22's and more pump work and tighten the turbo housing some and go hero

What rpms are you talking? It can be done, but I think your going to need more fuel. A set of 5x.22 duel feed injectors 5500-6000 rpms, and you'll be closer, but a 13mm pump will more than likely be needed. A 12mm may do it if properly tuned with a quick delivery cam.

4th gear in a 5 speed is 1:1 right? I have a buddy that has a 2.6 class CR that pulls with 5th LO in a G56, also 1:1. So it can be done, which SB DD do you have? He was using a 3850 but is going to an Iron Giant now. With that gear and 33" tires he blew the tires off it at the end of the track... I believe he has ATZ tires. Thats with a CR, so 4000 rpms is all he is turning.

It takes rpms to keep a 3.0 charger lit. I'm not saying not completly possible. I've seen Ben do it, is that who you were referring to? Isn't the sled usually a little heavier in the 3.0 class then the 2.6?

Yeah, I'm talking about Ben, though in defense the truck asking the question just said S400...could be a 2.6, 2.8 or 3.0 turbo for that matter. And as far as the sled weight goes, I would imagine it is heavier, lol. Though, it didn't feel like it that one time I pulled in the CMTPA 3.0 class with just an HX40, lol. 9th out of 9 wasn't bad that night considering who I was pulling against, lol.

If you can keep the turbo lit, you will be pulling with TQ=carnage....

I don't personally think it can be done, properly, might pull it off on a loose track.

Dump the 4:10s.

Ask Smokin Flatbed about running 4th low with 4.10s. That is the only gear he pulls in. He runs 32 inch cooper s/t's on his dually and it runs just fine. There are half a dozen videos on youtube showing how it works plus some of them are in the sled pulling section in a thread by him and one by me. I have ran low 4th with 285/75/16 interco truxs m/t on my dually and 3.55, it was deffinantly work on the clutch, but i still spun out at 296 ft at the heart of Illinois fair in peoria pulling the artic cat sled. I've done 4th low in the mud. I don't think there is any advantage unless you have big fuel. With my small injectors, rpms pull way down in 4th low. I think 2nd high with more revs is better than 4th low & trying to fight the turbo.

Reading this I get the impression 4:10's are a junk gear, unless you run 2nd Hi, 4th low is to much and 3rd low is way to slow.

What would you all recommend for a 2.6" class truck for gears? I was running calculations and it looked like a 4:56 would be good, as it would allow 4th low and 2nd Hi if it was a tighter track. I ran 4.88" calculations out and it looks like I'd really only be able to run 4th low. Opinions?

my 2 cents

4.56/2hi/35" tires
4.88/4th low/255/265 tires
5.13/4th low/33/35" tires

depends on track, heavy sled vs a VERY heavy sled , traction

it all plays it part.

Hey who is this? and where did you see me run the big gear?

how do you guys figure out what tires you need i am running 2nd high and would love to stay in a good rpm range if i cant get the tntr

3rd gear way to low and 2nd high is right but i like how low range feels

o my truck is 5 speed with 3.73 gears

I've seen you pull a few times. Saint Peters picnic, Hawk Point, and the unfortunate happenings at Bloomsdale. You pulled 5th at Hawk Point in the open right? (you didn't spin out that night did you?)

or u could just get a set of gears made for ur nv4500 so jump is not so big between 2nd and 3rd if u run 3.55's
