In the hitch rules it says you can have supports off the receiver(hitch). Can you have them on the hitch that slids in to the receiver to the truck frame? Or only supports from the hitch to the receiver? Or only from the receiver to the truck frame?
Receiver= part that bolts to the truck.
Hitch= part that slids into the receiver.
Any info would be helpful.
Thanks

the receiver can be reinforced as long as it does not go past the rear axle. the hitch can be reinforced too, aslong as it does'nt go past or hook to the rear axle.

This is the exact hitch from daves maroon truck how come he was able to run it????

This is just reinforced for safety

I would like to see the complete hitch, and how it is tied into the hitch point.

Where does the bottom bar tie to?

We have a similar problem on our new truck. The previous owner had the hitch modded and it ties in forward of the rear axle.

This was all done in a rush this past may to get the truck to IRP, i didnt not have time to paint it and once it was on i was to lazy to take it off.LOL

Where does the bottom bar tie to?
The driveshaft loop is mounted to it, no support at all
Hitch 009.jpg

Its looks like its welded to the sheetmetal crossmember in the bed??

Its connected to a bar inbetween the crossmember, and then bolted to the crossmember

That looks like it is welded to the receiver not the hitch itself. That is not how the original question was asked. He wanted to know if you could hook the support to the hitch itself and not the receiver. Unless I am just not seeing that picture quite right. Correct me if I am wrong.

The way it is hooked up I don't see hardly any advantage. If the hitch flexes at all down it will actually push the truck up in the front. The hitch will pivot around the point where it mounts to the frame with a radius that remains constant. To gain benefit from that setup, the horizontal portion of the hitch will have to actually move towards the back of the truck.

Now if you could push the hitch insert all the way through and hook the bar to it so that as you pull on the hitch insert as it moves backwards in the receiver it is pulling down on the crossmember, then there could be some gains. Take into consideration as the hitch slides back you are essentially moving your hook point away from the rear axle, therefore increasing the leaverage on lifting the front of the truck. You would have to see if you are actually pulling down harder on the front of the truck than you are trying to lift the front, I would think that the pros would outweight the cons though even if the hitch slid back.

Tech was lacking in the early days. Did you ever stop and think WHY Dave sold it? Maybe because he finally got BUSTED!!! LOL

How come every hucklebuck that has a bogus hitch claims, its just reinforced for SAFETY?

The same hucklebuck that we had to twist their arm to build U-joint shields, crossbolts, tranny blanket, SFI flywheeel, but suddenly out pops the wallet and the welder to make that hitch SAFE! SAFE! SAFE!!:bang :bang

Next time I see your truck Mikey, dont care where or when, Im pulling out the cordless sawzall, and your hitch will be 50 state legal when I'm through.:banned: :woohoo: :woohoo:  LOL

:welcome:

Yeah, does this hitch just fail the letter of the law?

...because IMHO it's not a trick hitch and doesn't do anything a "normal" reese-style hitch doesn't also do.

A technicality?

on edit: I went and read the rules and yes that hitch would be illegal. Was this added to keep people from going towards trick hitches, i.e. getting carried away into gray areas?
