When I say hitch I'm talking the actual "receiver" hitch that is bolted/welded to the frame. What's everyones oppinon on what works best, I threw one together in a hurry because I was trying to make a pull but I still come no where close getting it ready. Its a 5" piece of tubing mounted right under the frame rails, my bed is off and now the more I think about it I wish I had stuck it right between the frame rails, so here what I'm gettin at, what works best? Should I try and move it up and get the 26" height with the pintle and suspension?

Also something I'm a little confused on, where is the point where having the back of the truck to high, seems like a little would keep the front end down but to much would pull up on it???
Sorry for the book I'm just 100% lost when it comes to setting up the suspension on these trucks

I've ran both, one between the frame rails and now I have one right under the fram rails. I personally noticed no difference in the way it pulled.

As far as why the ass end is up in the air, I'm gonna give it a shot...

You want the hitch point to be as close to the bed as possible (as most rules say it can't be under the bed, no trick hitches, etc.) and no lower than the max allowed hitch height (again, as most rules state) to give you the best set up within the rules. So if a truck can get the height naturally (meaning no need to use an adjustable hitch, just whatever the suspension will give you) you would seemingly have an advantage because you could get your hitch point closer to the rearest most point of the bed easier.

I could show you easier than I can type it, so if any one else needs to correct all of that, be my guest. I know Tony B. and nwpadmax have explained all this in another "place" a long time ago.

I think I would have to agree with Shep that minimal adjustability at the hook point is the way to go and use the suspension to put you in the height ball park. Plus less welding and possible metal breakage at the area of the hook point.

You would be better off moving the receiver up to get your hitch height where you want it instead of rasing the suspension up in the rear. You are correct when you say you don't want too much forward rake in the truck, a little is ok. Once you start pulling the sled is going to try to level the truck out no matter what. And the biggest advantage would be to keep the hook point closest to the rear axle as possible. Good luck with it and let me know if you need any help.
