i have an 01 6 speed truck with a bad factory HO pump. Im looking to replace but arent sure which way to go. i have heard thet the SO's take to mods better but i use my truck for farm work and only have a programmer on it. I may do a little more to it but it wont be anything major. I have been told to go back with an HO since thats what it came with but they are harder to find and are more expensive. Please share your thoughts.

The HO pump has smaller plungers but a little more lift, but can't move quite as much fuel as the SO pump. But unless you're going for big power the HO pump would be fine. HOs tend to get a little better MPG but are also noisier. I don't think it's that difficult to change over to the SO but not sure how that's done.

I switched from a HO to a SO pump and picked up 20hp just by changing the pump. I made 571 with the HO and a small shot of NOS. I noticed that the MPG did drop and lost some bottom end but still like the SO. Its a toss up either way.

I'm debating between HO and SO as well. How much mpg drop and under what conditions? Even with tuning? thanks

i had an HO on my truck when i bought it, it died then i put an SO on it, i lost about 1.5 MPG and it def doesn't have the bottom end like it did, however the top end is much better by the seat o pants dyno

do you have to change anything on the truck as far as computer or wires when going from an HO to a SO pump?
