Wondering which holley pump is the way to go. Blue or Black. Also do I buy the Marine pump? I see a lot of people running the Blue pump, but the Black is supposed to flow more. Just looking for some info. Thanks.

Gasser trash hotrodders SWEAR by the Holley Blue. Say it's the best pump ever made and there can never be an equal.

blue or black. black werks fer me w/o a reg..perfect press and volume all around

i love my airdog....i know several people who were not very happy with their blue pumps coughinjectionpumpreplacementcough...times 2

Ran a blue pump for years and have buddy's running them and the blacks. Been great pumps on all the trucks. All unregulated. I prefer the blue because it's got a lower amp rating on it but the black will work as well. You just need to do a little work on the bypass plungers to help them slide in the barrel easier and they will work beautifully.

What kind of fueling mods do you have? The Holley pumps are a good value, but have their limits performance-wise.

Just stage 4 jammers.....drag comp....will the black pump hold up.. BgBlDodge could you explain the "Plunger Work" a little more?...thanks

Take out the bypass plunger and sand it and the barrel smooth with some emory cloth. It's located behind the big flat head screw on the motor case. Be careful cause there is a spring that will launch out. Also take note on which way the plunger comes out. Sand the plunger smooth and until all of the paint is worn off and then wrap the emory cloth around a pencil and run it up and down the bore it rides in. That'll really help the pressure stay more stable.

Yup. On the base of the pump you'll see a big flat head screw. That's where the plunger sits. Be careful pulling it out because it has a spring behind it.

Thanks for the info...ill be sure to smooth that up..it should hold pressure fairly good huh?

In my experience with holleys the plungers tend to stick and not allow pressure to really build up. Once you smooth them out they can move and allow pressure to build and when it drops it'll allow it to come back up.

Had a black on my truck for a while now and did a few tweaks on it, no complaints yet, and cant draw past about 11-12 even if I try. I say go for the black, cant beat it for the price

I put my aux. system on this weekend w a holley black....now it will only run 10 psi fuel pressure w/ the stock system. Do i need to put a check valve in the aux. system line. Is the fuel trying to return through the new system?

i agree with billygoat, carry a spare or enough hose to bypass it.

they do fail without warning and the stock pump will not pull fuel through a dead holley.

well i shouldnt have any problems with that..I have the holley as an aux. system...it has its own pickup tube...the stock system shouldnt have to pull through it..

This is just my $.02 worth. But :badidea:I wouldnt get a holly black or blue pump. I ran one worked great for a wile (other than it was noisy) Turns out they are not desighned to pump Diesel. They are ment to pump gas witch as you know is thinner than diesel. Anyhow it burned up (wile towing a 16k+ trailer) and took out my VP44. I was stranded for a week wile getting my truck repaied. Between repair bills rentle car and hotel bills it ended up costing me over $4,000.00. Go with a FASS or Air Dog lift pump you will be better off in the long run.
