"Hot" ECM ??

Ok, so got a couple friends I was helping out this weekend.

First has a "hot" ECM that he ran on his stock '99 24v. He claimed more power, and thought it added more timing. Supposedly it was from MADS Smarty...(maybe Bob Wagner can chime in on this) ??

Anyways I installed this ECM, on my other friends '01 24v, he has 150hp Jammer Injectors, Edge Drag Comp, and AirDog 150.

5 mins later went to start the 01...it loped like a big cam pulling tractor while in idle...went to put it in drive...loped 4 big times then died.

I'm not very familiar when it comes to these VP trucks...but I'm guessing someone, reflashed this with different settings, but I have no idea what was flased into it...or why this worked great on one truck, but not on the other w/ mods.

any input would be great! :thankyou2:

years back they burned the ecm's with a smarty like tune. then the smarty came out so you can just program and remove, ect. sounds like that's what you're referring to.

its prolly the orginal mads ecm its like a smarty but has no timing a friend of mine has one of the original mads ecm when it first cam out and still runs it hes says it adds no timing he runs it on his sovp and twins not sure about the lope your getting tho

that makes sense...

ya the lope was confusing...it was the ECM though...because as soon as I installed the stock ECM back on the '01...it ran fine...and the tach actually worked...

It was loping because you can not switch them between those two years without programming it for the proper year.

the guy w/ the '99 got it from an '01 truck when he installed it...so he never reprogrammed it...

so he says...

I have a Catcher ECM.

I wouldn't say it's the bees knees, but it works really well and give the truck great throttle response,, which may hurt you if you've got alot of fuel on tap,, and it did give me around 300 more RPM to play with before it really defueled...

Plus my idle is at 725 now and the idle is "softer". No high timing knock.

I wanna say Catcher stood for Clutch and Traction Challenger?
