How bad is the Drivability when you advance the cam one tooth?

So I have a H-D big stick cam in my truck (2001 24v ) and i plan to go to 4000 rpm with a new fuel box . But i was advised that the isb engine with the vp44 pump only will deliver 15 deg of timing advance total. (no matter the box or chip) I was advised to jump the cam to crank gear one tooth advance (add 10 deg) for a total of 25 deg for top end power.
Has anyone done that ?
How streetable is it?
Or is this all hog wash?
Please advise

advancing the cam, or retarding it, only moves the power band (hp/tq) up or down the rpm scale about 500 rpm all things bein equal
It does not usually make more hp just moves it around

what changing cam timing will not do is change your pump timing in any way - if all you have is 15 degrees total pump timing then you will always have 15 total pump timing
the only way to get more pump timing is to advance the pump, or change the internal advance if there is any, like a VE pump has

so yes - you could retard the cam to get more top end power, ie move yuor peak hp up the scale by 500 rpm, and then advance the pump a few degrees and you will see a difference in top end power
