I know in the past if you took the IFS off your chevy and added a straight axle you got tossed in the mod class.

So,these days, If a guy showed up to pull in the 2.6 class with a straight axle chevy, would he get to hook or not ?

they've let Eikenberry pull in the 2.8 classes and he has an SFA duramax...

I really don't see what the problem would be, as long as it is one ton or less equipment and you arent changing the wheelbase.

Give RyanB a shout, he has a bad a$$ '89 GMC with a SFA, that he pulls with. Maybe he can give you a little insight.-Nicholas

I think it would depend what organization you plan to pull with. The 2.6 class is a lighter class and would have more street trucks in it, and they may be harsher on inspecting a modification like that. As always it is who and how much they read into the rule...

i dont see a problem with it......i understand why they do it and it seems right, wouldnt be any different than swapping a 2nd gen dodge over to a high pinion ford axle for strength.....

Ive seen a few pullers with SFA D-max's and they were allowed to run street, but I guess that was just because many oulls around here run one class. It all depends on how strict the assn. is on stuff like that.

Yeah, I havn't had much of a problem yet with people not letting me pull. Most of the rules are pretty vague when it comes to the front suspension and say something like this

An OEM Style Front suspension is mandatory:

A) The upper mounting point for strut assemblies must be in the factory location. Adjustable caster/camber pillow ball mounts are permitted. The lower control arm may be strengthened provided factory-mounting points to chassis are maintained. The lower mounting point for the strut assembly may be modified for improved caster or camber. Strut tower braces, lower tie bars, sway bars, and limit straps are permitted. Traction bars and devices are permitted.

My suspension is totally custom built but uses all stock parts...be it Dodge,GMC and FORD!!!!! I am using a set of 2005+ Ford trailing arms and the rules state that The lower control arm may be strengthened provided factory-mounting points to chassis are maintained.....I am using the factory mounting points...just doesn't say which "factory" mounting points I am using (In my case Ford mounting points...not GM's!)

In 2006 when Deiter was still head of DHRA's pulls I emailed him showing him my suspension because I wanted to pull at Indy. He said it was no problem for me to pull in Super Street (not because of the suspension but the twins).

Anyway, I think its up to the track official but personally I think as long as its safe and was offered as a suspension type by the factory you should be able to run it.

Here are some pics of my setup. For more detailed pics please search some of my old posts.

RyanB and everyone, thanks for the input, I guess my next question is will the IFS in a 93 2500 hold up to a 12valve cummins with a 2.6 charger ? or a 3.0 ?

Once,,,maybe I would not want to try it knowing what kind of power you can make

i would jsut SFA the truck instead of playing with the IFS its a PITA, the SFE is soooooo much better....

IFS is not usually the week point if your CV's are in good shape. The real week point is the tie rods and tie rod ends.

Hey, I have done a ton of Solid Axle swaps into GMs over thirteen years of owning a 4x shop, and those photos that show the ford control arms... NICE ... great idea and looks like a clean install.
