ive got a 97 with a motor out of a 2000 superduty. its got a 4eod trans that holds first gear for a long time. how can i adjust that? people tell me the fipl is on the pump but they dont realize ive got a newer engine.

FIPL = Fuel Injection Pressure Lever
Its basically a TPS(throttle Position sensor) that tells the tranny computer where the throttle is so it knows when to shift or downshift.
If you have a powerstroke you dont have a FIPL.
FIPL's were used on the older IDI engines with mechanical injector pumps.
Just in case you really need to know how to set the FIPL, You need the Ford Rotunda tool to do it the easiest(good luck finding a dealer that still has one-that works) Some scan tools can tell you if your high or low but wont let you dial it in(Very long process) Your best bet if you cant or dont do any of the above is to start moving the FIPL in one direction in very small increments(small fractions will change it easily) and drive it. And if it doesnt get better go the other way and do it again.Keep doing this until its where you like it.
