how do you start off the line???

so i was wonding how everyone starts off the line. i see people boosting off , just flooring it,or ease into it then when sleds moving just floor it. i seen a bad a** dodge dully this weekend at a pull and his rpms would go up then down and up and down getting quicker in between and then like he had it pined and then took off. how does he do that??? thanks im just getting started pulling and love it so want to learn as much as i can.
 
Wind it up, ease out on the clutch to make sure the chain is tight, let it go. Seen a few guys roll back and not realize the chain was loose and had a hell of a rough ride.
 
depends on the track, tires, and the type of sled. Everytruck is different too.
 
With my auto...
If the track is tight/heavy I'll build boost (about 10psi) before I let off the brake. My truck isn't "built up" to much so 10psi is about all I do for now.

If the track is loose then I'll ease into the go pedal while holding the brake slightly to build boost at the same time and get it rollin as best I can...sometimes you might have to "feather" the go pedal slightly if ur spinnn to much.

I'm still kind of a rookie though....

Ease right foot down on firewall, ease left foot up off firewall, & HANG ON! LOL
 
try to put my right foot through the firewall, then take left foot and step left.
 
I just got my first cummins with a 5spd, and I really want to get into pulling next year. I might hook next weekend for fun with a few guys from Cumminsforum. It has a southbend dual disk in it, i was told it was the street puller clutch. I am also looking for suggestions on how to start and everything.
 
i build up rpms to about 3200 start letting the clutch once i get it rolling let the clutch fly and put it to the floor.

Anyways like everyone else has said, make double sure the chain is tight, dent the floor with your right foot, let the clutch out slow until everything in the driveline is tight, then drop it like it's hot. You should act like your doing the biggest burnout of your life. Just don't ride the clutch a ton, because no clutch will live under those conditions.
 
Yeah, I think he meant it was a good "double duty" clutch meaning its okay on the street or the track.
 
mines a auto and i let it fly at 25lbs of boost in letter do its thing going down the track. But make sure your drive train is in good shape before building high boost in coming out the hole.
