How Many Times Did You Guys Retorque Your Head With Fire Rings And Arp's? When Did You Re-torque It Also. 1 Heat Cycle. 1000 Miles? Thanks

Torque the head down after install. Start truck, idle up to operating temperature then shut it off. After the engine is stone cold do your retorque. Drive about 1000 miles and do the last one on a stone cold engine again.

That is how I did mine and the torque after 1000 miles wasn't even really needed.

I go a little further than that. I do the same, idle up to temp, cool down, retork,, then I go for a drive up to temp (good drive) then back to the garage, cool down,, retork.... then 200 or so miles retork,, should be good then

holy crap dont you guys hate adjusting your valves that much? or even taking of the rockers to get to the studs?

Initial torque.

Start and bring up to operating temp (don't put a load on the engine!), wait till it's completely cold, retorque.

Drive for +/-500 miles, wait until it is completely cold, retorque.

Do them one at a time, completley loosen the one you are retorqing, then torque it back down.

125 on all of them. You're going to get varying opinions on this.. But as far as I know, that is what ARP recommends.

Doing the valves don't bother me much.. Rather do it right and now worry about pulling the head again.

The best results on alot of trucks we have done is
1st warm it up let it cool of for an 1/2hour break loose go to 105 then to your desired torque
2nd dirve it nice for 5OO miles do it again warm
3rd at 1k warm retorque
and at 1500 paint a few and break them loose and re torque if it moves I do it again.

Hey,just a question,, Is it 10 thou or 12 for the valves on a CR?

thanks,,,thats what I thought,, but wanted to make sure.. too lazy to pull out my manual

Come on, you didn't even make 200 miles.:poke:

My first two torques are like everyone else, initial, then a full heat cycle and retorque. I put on roughly 200km or so and did it again. Then I have started to beat on it some. I plan to do another retorque, probably in the spring (doesn't get many miles put on it), then check it again in the fall, and probably forget about it after that. By that point, I might have another 1k km on it.

I lwt mine idle to full operating temp then retorqued and set the valves. I haven't done a second one yet. So what are the people running race rigs do. I didn't even put 1500 miles on my truck all last year so going by mileage doesn't really work for me.

I put atleast 15 miles on from the track to Nisku and back. Sad to say I put the most mileage on it.

For what it's worth and I don't have firerings, but when I did the studs I replaced gasket at the same time then did the torques going up to 90 foot pounds and then did 5+ going up to 115 foot pounds. I plugged it in over night and then went back and went to 125 foot pounds. That was back in April and I have no retorques since pushing 45psi and 24 degrees of timing...

Is there a retorque recomendation for the 625 studs? When we installed mine I was told to torque them to 150 and that's it.

so r u guys re-adjusting your valves every time you take the rockers off? I hate cr that you have to do that.
