How much STP oil treatment do i add when changing oil?

I got the blue bottles, after reading a little i saw that the red 4-cylinder version has more zddp and is thinner. I might go back to see if i can exchange it.

So how many bottles of the blue STP?

The bottles are 15oz, i bought 3, but i think that might be too much and make my oil too thick?

The more i read about Zddp the less i want to put STP in my engine. I cant find anything on the amount it has per bottle.


Anyone think i should hold off for some ZDDPlus instead?
 
What do you need an oil additive for? You should be fine with just OIL.

The general concensus is that with the newer oils not containing the same additive package as before...the ZDDP stuff needs to be put back in to prevent early wear on cam lobes, etc.
 
I have been contemplating the same thing! Just don't want to change the viscosity of the oil so I ain't gonna run it! I haven't been able to find what the STP treatment adds for ZDDP?? So I am not gonna add it!

What are you running for oil? I finally found some VPB and am going to run it vs the JD-Plus 50 I am running! VPB (Virgin) has Phos-1468/Zinc-1541.....
 
i run 2 bottles of the blue stp year round. dad been running it for years and years in his stuff. if dont like stp use lucas oil additive a bit more money. lucas say to put 1qt for every gallon and 1 qt for the powerstroke. just put as you want you can find lucas at a truck stop normally if your local auto parts store doesnt haveit. or marvel mystery oil havent used marvel.

in kind of additive is better then nothing at all.
 
Why don't you guys just buy some ZDDP or and additve like the one F1 is offering that is mainly ZDDP?
 
Why don't you just use Schaeffers with the liquid moly? It is protected then!!!!
 
Amsoil and Brad Penn are not available at local Wal-Marts, Rotella and STP Oil treatment are though lol.

STP Oil Treatment is suuuper thick, I put some in at my last change. It is thicker than honey lol.
 
how much is a gallon of amsoil these dayz?

its great oil...but man are they proud of it
 
dealer price is 122.00 for 5 gallons in the 2 1/2 gal twin pack 15/40. If you are a prefered member it is the same price. I believe it is some of the best you can buy and I run it in motor tranny and both diffs, for now. I bought the dealer membership just for myself its $30 ish annually.
 
On my last order of 15W40 HDD Amsoil I paid $23.85 for the gallon and $58.55 for the 2.5 gallon container, plus tax/shipping. I have a commercial account so I think that's a little lower than the standard membership. It took a little work to get but doesn't cost anything to renew (have had it about 6 years).

That's what I run.

This next oil change I'm going back to VPB, cause the guy was out of 5-40 schaffers.

Schaffers fully syn is about the same as VPB with 3 bottles of stp. I will be going back to schaffers on the next one.

I'm running schaffers 5/40 syn.
Ill be running VPB this time though.

Stp doesn't have much zddp. I think I'm gonna bring mine back and order some ZDDPlus.

You know I called the JD place to see how much their oil was because of you post in the high hp oil analyst thread.

24.99 a gallon! I don't know why I thought it would be reasonably priced.
 
How much does the schaffers oil run? Patty at Haisley machine recomended that oil to my buddy but I have not been able to locate pricing from anybody local, or a dealer who will ship. Jason

I pay $60 for 3 gallons of 5/40 supreme 9000 fully synthetic.

This by far the best oil I've used.

Every vehicle I changed to schaffers has gained 1.5-2mpg, honestly.

I buy mine from a lawn mower shop.
 
I use about a quart of oil additive in addition to the 12 quarts of normal oil every change.
