So I have spent the last 5 hours hunched over sitting on my bumper trying to break that damn nut loose and I can't do it. I've tried lodging everything I can in the pulley to make it stop spinning and I've tried everything I can to break the nut loose but it won't budge. Yall have any tips?

And yes, I know it's reverse thread and I've been twisting it the right way which is clockwise to loosen.

I'll try that tomorrow. I need to get this dang thing replaced. 13mpg sucks.

On my truck I took the little 8mm? bolts that hold the pulley to the hub. Then I was able to get all of the bracket bolts out. Once you have the assembly out, you can see that there is a hole for a allen socket on the back side of the hub. This gives you something to hold onto instead of the pulley.

I thought about doing that about hour 3 in to the project but wasn't sure what was on the back side of the bracket.

It's a cold day down below when I take my truck to a shop but after sitting in the parking lot of o'reilly's for over an hour with the proper tools and two other guys helping I still couldn't break the nut loose. So I found a local shop that said $65 and it'll be done in an hour. Done deal.

I put a wrench on it and did what people told me. I swung at the wrench handle with a 2x4, about 6 hits and it was free. The blunt point chisel sounds like the best idea to me. Sadly less than a year ago I had it off and use anti sieze on it. Came right off the first time. This latest time was terrible.

I tried that to. I beat on that thing as hard as I could for hours and couldn't bust it loose.

Well the 2x4 gives a nice swift hit. It took me 3 evenings to get it off. Broke off one of the 10mm fan bolts too, as well as chewed up the pulley a little.

I have a friend with a body shop, he uses a air hammer (chisel). Said it works real good.

Tyler, I can't beleive you're actually paying someone to work on your truck.....

Me either anna. But after 6 hours and bruised and burnt arms I'm throwing in the towel. I'll be watching them.

I've been there.

No matter how frustrating it is, there is a time when you just need to smack yourself upside the head and say "sometimes my time is worth more than my money."

I'm paying someone to fix up a little body work on my truck right now. I could have done the job, but there is also this very nice little thing called "accountability" if it goes wrong. :)

3 whacks with an air hammer and chisel and it busted loose. I was pissed. LOL The only charged me $40 to do it and I tipped the mechanic a $10 for getting me in and out so fast. They had a parking lot full of cars waiting to be worked on. I like places like that.

I hate to sound like a smart a$$ but, I told ya so. Been there done that, I still have the scars on my knuckles to prove it :bang

Shut up Anna:hehe:

Prob the best choice you could have made Tyler, and I'm the same way as you, I want to do ALL my work myself.

And MD, I'm pretty sure Tyler doesn't have air tools at his apartment:D
