How can you tell what injection pump you have? i have a 2001 cummins Does it have the ho pump or the so pump/ how can you tell the difference?

If you have a 6spd it should have a HO pump if it's an Auto it should be an SO unless changed by someone else.

Bingo.

And the pumps ARE interchangable, no matter what anyone else tries to SELL, errr, Tell you.

What do you mean by take?

They can make upper 600's on fuel with the right combo.

The HO pump will take more abuse than the SO pump, WAAAAAAYY more abuse.......

Mine has 214k on the stock pump and I know of at least three times it has been run with a locked up Holley pump restricting the fuel flow (had to get it off the road). Not to mention an 8hr road trip with 0 fuel pressure when I first got the truck and didn't know jack about a 24V.

I would have to disagree its a crap shoot either way with the VP. I have seen SO pumps die and HO pumps die with the same treatment all around the same mileage.

My H.O. pump went T.U. at about 93k.

Had no warning what-so-ever. Truck was running fine, then went around a corner in downtown Spokane.. and it just flat died.

Would not restart. Crank Crank Crank.

I had a FASS with 18psi for 60k+ miles. The stocker was working fine when I replaced it with the FASS.

There just is no way to know with these things. I wish I had p-pumped mine when it went out, but I needed it back on the road. I went with a SHO pump, and I couldn't be happier with it.. I just know in the back of my mind that at any moment, my truck may leave me completely stranded. That sucks.

Id p pump it but if i do that then im making it a pull truck not my dd/weekend ride. We will see just how long this SO pump will last me this time then im putting my hot rod pump back on when i get it back.

most of the highest HP VP44 trucks are sporting a SO pump...you can tell which pump it is buy the last 3 digits in the pump model number.... the last three of an SO are 027 and the last three of an HO are 028 IIRC.

I think you need to change the pop pressure of the injectors, also.

It is not very difficult, and people like Haisley make an entire kit to do the swap if you don't want to chase down the parts yourself.
