hunting/chugging at idle.

I've got a couple of newb questions to ask. I'm about at my wits end with this truck so any help would be appreciated.

List of crap done to it that I can remember - 99 qclb 4x4. Full billet 47re, jammer 5's, o-rings/12mm arps/hamilton springs/home porting, 14cm/hx35-ht3b twins, afe intake, snow stage 2, quad ADR/pulse, airdog.

I've been driving with the qzilla on 0 for some time now but haven't tried completely pulling it yet... Anyway, truck has been somewhat hard starting for some time now and has been sounding almost like it's missing. In the past two months it's been getting progressively worse at idle or low throttle with bad chugging. It almost seems like the tc is locking after I'm slowing down, but I'm not sure how to test for that. What makes me think otherwise is that from time to time when it's in park and (qzilla) fast idle mode kicks in, it hunts/chugs until I press the accelerator. There are no signs of water in the oil, but it looks like I may be losing coolant. I'm thinking that maybe the headgasket is gone or the vp is dying (or both). How can I check for hg problems on this thing easily?

TIA.

Drain the coolant and beg/borrow a pressure tester to check for obvious leaks in the coolant system, this will only work well if you are loosing a noticeable amount of water.

The weird idle sounds like some kind of electrical noise in the system, remove the quad's power so it will act as a boost fooler only and see what happens. Just start eliminating variables and pretty soon you'll have it licked.
