im doing a little homework on my hx50 build. i picked up a 67/78/22, non wastegated, with a t4 flange. so im looking for a new exhaust housing.

id realy like to use a 16cm wastegated housing, with a t3. (off of a hx40) but im having mixed resopnces an weather it will work. i have had a guy at columbus diesel supply tell me it wouldnt work. and i have several guys here tell me it would work??? i searched it and came up empty?

so will it work? is there a better option? any help would be awsome! :Cheer: :thankyou2:

ha ha yeah tell me about it :bang. the whole exhaust side of the turbo is too big. thats why id like the smaller exhaust housing to help her spool a little faster.

Stay away from Hx50 or HX55.

I run HX55 with 17cm non wastegate housing, at the end of the track I saw 75-85 psi and kaboooooom ( total milage 100 miles:bang)

Not for daily driving, very laggy, It start creating boost at 60mph before it's just smoke show

Better find S465 or similar, do not waste your time and money :kick:

goo! i guess a picture is worth a thousand words. i think they would have to make a new word to describe how pissed i would be if that happened to me. thats alot of money and wrench work for 100 miles.

ill start lookin into some better turbos. thanks :Cheer:

17 cm is the smallest housing I have heard of for the hx50s.

Were you planning on upgrading the shaft or compressor wheel or just running it stock? I have heard most horror stories related to these turbos blowing apart on the track with stock components.

I had to machine the 17cm housing to fit, becuse out there is two size of HX50, small hx50 and big HX50 witch size identical as HX55

From turbo flow thread You can find actual impeller and shaft size difference.

i was planning on the stock wheels. but the more digging i do, the more i think i want something else. how much are the upgraded wheels and shaft? and how much better are they?

Teddy Bear ran a 65mm HX55 with a 17cm gated exhaust housing for a while on his puller and it was an awesome turbo. Held up to 50psi just fine and IMO ran as good and spooled as good as his S465 does. 75-85psi is just too much on most 2.5-2.6 chargers in my opinion. 50-60psi should accomplish more than the turbo's were meant for anyways.

how good of street manors did it have?

true that. on most turbos, once you get past 60 lbs, you start to push hot air anyway. so if i can get either turbo past 70-80 lbs. ill be wanting to do some port, valve and cam work to increase flow. id rather have 40psi coming out of a fire hose and 60psi coming out of a garden hose.

Another member on here built up the hx50 I bought and I want to say it cost in the neighborhood of $2k when all was said and done, but it is no longer a 2.6 either - which probably was a decent chunk of the cost I would imagine. PM me if you want more info.

I am running a pro52 and after reading some of the things on here I am skeptical about its longevity. What is the difference in it and the HX50 and HX55. Should I be considering a different turbo? Thanks Eddie

I forgot to say, I get 60lbs of boost but on top end I here the turbo sound like it is sneezing. It smokes like hell at the start of each gear but clears out on the top.

from what i understand, a hx52 is a hx55 with the exhaust housing off a hx50. correst me if i miss heard. if you have the billet wheels and shafts you are good to go man. id look into it a little before id junk it.
