My first ball joint swap... Got three and the fourth (passenger side lower) is giving me hell, torch, press, PB blaster, grinder, and a mini sledge... I'm out of options except to invest in a better torch...

Here's how it went, I hit it with the press first with some blaster and hammer and didn't budge, tried to knock it around with the hammer without press because the press won't line up exactly in the middle..

In the process I'm pretty sure I mushroomed the top lip (right above the snap ring groove) so I ground it down level with the hole to be sure, also after that I got a torch and got it nice and hot, still didn't budge..

The only thing I can think of now after all this is to get a hotter torch. I've been using propane and my last option before losing my mind is to invest in an acetaline...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. And yes, now I know it would have been worth taking it to the shop... LOL

I believe they sell it at hardware stores in small bottles with the presto type torch

It looks as though you're pressing the ball joint the wrong way.

You want to press it up not down.

drill a hole in that thing before it blows up on you! i've had two blow up from heating them with a torch.

The lowers press in from the bottom.

Did you try putting the press on and tightening as tight as you can get it and hitting the knuckle with a hammer? It's always worked for me, so you may want to try hitting it with a bigger hammer. I use an 8lb splitting maul.

Lol I was gunna say I've already got the drivers out and it went down.. Lol

Hole has been drilled, luckily it went through just before snapping and sending a part of the bit into my arm... Prolly could use stitches but I don't have time...

Got my MAPP btw thanks guys

Yes hit the knuckle once you have pressure on it. Should shock it loose. If not try more heat and get something better then pb try kroil its the best for frozen bolts or parts.

GOT IT FINALLY!!! LOL Thanks all. I owe people beers as TS or something idk...

Hopefully you used ample amounts of anti-seize on the new joints...

I just did also ball joint job on '00 axle (luckili it was removed from truck).
Looks like somebody have tried to remove before unsucessfully.

The only way to get them out was with hydraylic press what I creat for this purpose.
Also with hydraulic press the installation was easy...
