I have an 05 F250 SD with DJ’s Looney Tune, I run this tune as my daily driver. I have ran this tune for about one year now with no problems. I recently came off a deployment and fire up the diesel for the first time in two months.

Question I have is could this problem be do to bad diesel? After driving the truck for a couple of days I notice a slight hesitation, then a total loss of power. I came up to a stop light, idle was fine and then I gave it gas to accelerate no movement. All I got was a mix of white and black mix of exhaust smoke. The truck did not move as if it was in neutral, I shut the truck off waiting for about 2-3 min and fired it up no problem. I put it in gear and proceeded home.

I’m still driving the truck and now every once in a while I get a hesitation with a little puff of white and black smoke. I have no codes showing up, I know something is not right. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Louis

SCT with the Looney Tune from DJ, Accufab Elbow, K&N cold air intake, 4”turbo back SS exhaust, and gauges.

Have you checked your fuel filters. My first guess would be a stuck EGR valve, but the not moving at all has me a little stumped.

it could be a coronations of things..bad fuel..old fuel filters clogged EGR valve or sticking turbo veins..

first guess would be turbo..

Thanks guys, I guess I forgot to mention I just got my oil and fuel filters change two days ago. I’m still having the same problem (hesitation and mixture of smoke coming from the exhaust), how could I trouble shot the sticking turbo veins or fix the clogged EGR Valve? Is there something I could put in the tank like to help with this problem?

nothing can be added to the tank to fix turbo or EGR valve issues.

You would need to pull the actual EGR valve and check it..

as for the turbo you would have to pull the turbo off the track and take it apart to check the veins..

sometimes..sometimes they will free themselves with daily driving and running them balls to the wall once or twice a day..when they don't get driven on a daily basis it seems to wreak havoc on the veins in the turbo.

Thanks for your help. If the EGR valve was sticking or causing any problems shouldn’t this case a code to flash? Not exactly sure were the EGR valve is located but I would think it’s behind the turbo somewhere. You wouldn’t think this cloud be related to the SCT tune?

here is teh best way I can tell you..PICTURES..

look at the 3rd picture..see the red cap..directly to the right is the EGR valve..

looking into you engine bay the EGR valve is located directly behind the intake elbow.

more then likely your tune has the CEL lights disabled.so..you can de tune your truck and drive it around for a few hours..and then try to pull codes..

Not a mechanic here, just an idea. I would return the truck to stock before taking anything apart. Does anyone think its possible an injector is leaking or gummed up and it could be cleared up with a tank of fuel with lots of additives? Two months of sitting sure is hard to believe would stick the vanes on the turbo.

On my last truck, a 7.3L, I would run a quart or two of tranny fluid in a tank of fuel a couple of times a year, but I don't know if you should do that on the 6.0L's. I'm sure someone can say yes or no definitively on that one.

BTW, Louis, thanks for your service to our country. Good luck to you.
