I got a buddies truck that i'm pretty sure the VP is out on it, When you first start it in the morning it will run fine till it starts to warm up, then i cuts out really bad, dies, and barley idles... truck has an SO vp with less than 1k on it, but he has a quad and no fuel system and I doubt the chip has seen anything but the highest setting:bang Sound like a VP to you guys?

maybe lift pump is shot, vp is sucking fuel through pump.... check fuel press and as tyler asked for codes

Yep vp is going out, if its hard to start when warm.

Turn the key on and off 3 times on the 3rd leave it on. Should bring up codes. Probably a 2016 or a 1693 which is a companion code and you will have to have a code reader to read it. 2016 is the death code.

When my vp started going it was sticking when the truck was cold. Never had warm problems.

I have recntly developed a hot start issue on a VP that is only about 3 months old. I had been chasing a fuel leak issue for a few months and when we finally swapped an injector line a few weeks back< I figured that would solve it. this isn't a hot start like I had in the past when the VP was taking a crap(4-5 attempts to start would not work) but it usually fires right off on the second hit and tries to fire off on the first attempt, but wont crank. I'm gonna swap fuel filters and dink with it some more... I may have a bad pickup in the tank.

The overflow valve on the VP is a good place to start for hot starting issues.

Good. I learned the hard way, when I purchased a new pump, only to have the same hot starting issue. When I found out it was the overflow valve, I was refunded the money for the pump. Lucky me.

I had one previously that had a hot start, but it was clearly the board on top taking a poop... plus it had 80k miles... This one isn't acting in the same way at all. I bet(and hope) you are right. Thanks to Darren Morrison for offering to hand deliver the parts I need to the race this weekend at OBX.

Kyle did you have any codes when you had the hard start issues ? I am having hard start issues but only after the engine is warmed up or hot .

wow i'm so glad you just said that. I've been chasing down a hard start on my truck for like 2 months now, always when it's warm. I'll have to push the fuel pedal WFO just to get it to start. I've been thinking there's air somehow getting into the system and was going to redo all the fuel lines and stuff but i'll start with the overflow valve.
