I am going to be picking up my truck this afternoon from getting a cam installed. Obviously the valves will be lashed upon start-up, but i wont be able to chech/adjust them for 30+mi after the break-in...(dont ask why, its a long story), but I am wondering if any damage will ocour if the valve are not adjusted right after break in???

I fully intend on doing them once i get it to my shop but its a 25-30mi drive....any suggestions???

cummins has a pretty wide spec for valve lash. If you go out of spec on that 30 mile drive, you'll have bigger problems to worry about than your valve lash. :)

You're using a zddp additive right? I know you've previously mentioned stp, but you'll need something a bit more concentrated for cam break-in.

Ok, I'll just take it easy till I can adjust, just worried about accelerated wear on the cam lobes from possible valve lash not being right.

And yes good buddy I am using LOTS of zinc and phosphorous for break in. Went to my local engine builder and he steered my in the right direction!!

You may have posted somewhere else, if so I didn't see it...Which cam did you go with?

IIRC he went with a hamilton cam. Not sure which one. The good thing is he'll be able to give us good dyno comparisons on a 600+ hp truck. I can't wait to see how it works out.

Yes I went with a Big Stick from Hamilton.

Everything went in good and my truck is SOOOO much smoother and all my previous valvetrain noise is GONE!!!:snoop:

Its actually hard to tell its running except for the injector clatter!!!

Nice...!

Better Spool? Power ?

Give us an update when you get it squared away....!

I've only got 15 miles on it right now, and ut was all stop and go traffic.

Tomorrow I'll have more feedback, then it gets dynoed on Friday.

Glad to hear your noise is gone. Do you have larger injectors and cp3? Looking forward to seeing the dyno sheet.

Yes I've got injectors and a cp3 capable of 700hp with some more tuning.

And yes I have plenty of runs to compare before/after!!

I'll probably post sheets tomorrow as long as everything goes well tonight.
