does anyone know if 7000 rpms is possible out of duramax if so how do you achive this i would like to bulid a drag truck with a duramax diesel that turns around 7000 rpm i heard of people get 6000 rpm just want to know if this was possible

you'll have to have a stand alone computer and who knows what else mechanically to run that high. I say you'll need the stand alone because, to my knowledge, the computers on the older duramax engines (the lb7 and lly) don't have the "smarts" to process that fast so they can't fire things off quickly enough to run that many RPMs. The newer ones (LBZ and LMM, 06+) might have the processing ability to rev that high but I don't know for sure. The only person I've heard of running higher than 5000 has an LBZ and I don't think it's done that often. There may be others but they aren't talked about much yet.

I have absolutely no idea what other parts of the engine will need upgrade beyond things that are already upgraded for the RPMs that are currently achievable - 5000ish. Namely the valve train. I'd imagine one-off pieces would be in order for the rotating assembly and block.

There is one other possibility of being able to do it with a "mechanical" Duramax, which I understand there to be some going together. By mechanical I mean it has a mechanically driven fuel injection pump on it as opposed to the OE-type electrically driven/controlled common rail injection system.

Good luck with this. Sounds like an interesting undertaking.

Sounds like an absolute money pit to me. But then, I don't have unlimited funds. With enough money, damn near anything is possible.......

The tricked out Banks LBZ drag engine cuts the fuel off at 5600rpms or 5800rpms IIRC.

Seems to me with their resources and engineering talent..... if 7k was doable, they'd be there. I dunno, just a thought

you dont really need 7000 rpms i was just wondering if it was obtainable

thxs for the repiles

What about Wakeman's truck??? That truck sounds like its runnin a stupidly high amount of revs... Anyone know how many he turns?

Seems i remember reading/hearing somewhere that 5000rpm was supposed to be the danger zone for the Allison?

The Banks truck sounds like a big block chevy. I do believe it tops out at under 6K. Think a totally different approach to a tranny would have to be taken if you could accomplish this. One of the race trannies comes to mind.

the LBZ/LMM ECM is basically the "duramax standalone ECM"'s brother.

Both look identical, both are based on the bosch EDC-16 architecture, have the same core proc, etc...

I think, in my limited understanding, the only difference as far as I know is the software and stuff.
