Just wondering how many people pull with a 6-speed?

Just trying to get an idea if anybody out there competes with a manual truck. I'm trying to figure out which way to build up. I'd like to build a pulling truck since you can't drag a handshaker and i don't really want to swap in an auto. I'd like to hang onto the truck since its a 99 with a forged bottom end so it can take a bit before i would have to dive into a built motor

I pull with a 2000 Ford with a ZF 6 speed. But then again I also do a lot of things that people tell me not to do. There is a link to my videos in my sig.

I Pull with my 6 speed duramax. Just get yourself a good clutch .

I pull with my 2002 Ram with a 6 speed. Probably the best manual to pull with actually. Depending on your power level you won't hurt a NV5600 with a good DD in it. You'll break something first....

Tell that to the people who have blown the main shafts. You blow it once get a kit to fix it and if it blows again, your screwed.

personally the NV4500 if you put the big input shaft in it will handle more abuse. You would think from the sheer size of the NV5600 it would be the cats meow, but the lighter weight NV4500 its advantage for pulling. I have seen a few of them strip 2nd gear pulling on the high side of the case though. Of course these were trucks with several years of pulling on them.

Thats why I pull in low range now......I tried 2nd hi a couple times, but quit. 4th LO works better. And I imagine any tranny with several years of pulling would stand to wear something out eventually. Also, I've only been pulling for a few years, but I haven't heard of any mainshafts breaking, though I've seen a few 5 spds break inputs since they didn't go to bigger shafts when they upgraded clutches. From what I've read here, you have a bit more experience pulling than me, so I'll take your word on it...

Hey hot rod what gear are you starting in? that's a pretty sweet vid, engine speed doesn't seem to drop off too much when you let out the clutch

I run a NV5600 2nd gear, high side of the transfercase and a built 2.8 motor with Haisley comp puller clutch with no problems hooked 30-40 this summer

Several people from Indiana, Justin Williams blew his out. Curt Haisley blew one up in his street truck at Gordyville. He went with a 5 speed in off constantly the first year because he blew the main shaft in his street truck pulling. EEP has a coupling that can fix the mainshaft the first time it breaks, the next time it breaks, there isn't anything for the coupler to couple. Lots of it depends on track conditions.

I pull with a ZF6 Dmax. I have pull both 4th low and 2nd high. I rather not pull in high range but 2nd worked good with 500hp and loose tracks.

The video that is directly linked in my sig is 4th Lo range. I was starting to run 5th low range, but the clutch wasn't grabbing until about 260ish feet..... I plan on fixing that for this season.

I know of one Ford local that went from a 6spd to an auto and is regretting it.

HotRod your truck did run great at Hillsboro, i was glad to see a stroker competing.....

Im putting with a NV5600 in mine and havn't had a single problems...actually with the whole drive train. I was pulling only in 4th low this year as it worked great with my 12valve turning 5K plus. I have heard from many well known pullers and agree that most of the breakage is comming from guys with 24valves that are pulling in direct because they are wanting to get there wheel speed up because they don't have the RPM, where I can pull in 4th and rev to what I am and my wheel speed is still up above where they are.

Thanks that was the first time down the track with a new turbo setup. She is only going to get better as I get her dialed in. I've got plenty of improvements to finish up on this winter in the hopes of a very strong '08 season.
