k38 cummins CAPS system

We have a k38 cummins for a emergency diesel gen @ work. The fuel system looks like a HEUI system, but i was told its a CAPS system (cummins, accumulated, pressure system)
someone care to explain?

the 8.3 and 8.9s used the caps pumps for a while the pumps are junk. no one can
work on them and they are 5000 exchange for a reman. Ive put a kit together to change over to a p-pump on the case IH tractors with these,really wakes them up.

CAPS is basically an injection pump, that nobody can fix. The ISC's we have on a few at work are all fixed on an exchange basis except the accumulator pressure sensor. Royal PITA.

Similar to an electronic distributor pump (like the VP44 on Dodges), but the ECU has much more control.
