Hey guys, I guess I pushed it too long. Pretty sure it fell out and cracked the case. Everything else seems to be good. So here's the question, anybody got a case lying around they'd like to get rid of?

At least take the cover off and make sure there is not anything floating around in the gears.

I just got my 98 running after the KDP killed my engine. It was down 8 months waiting on parts and machine work.

My KDP fell out and cracked the case. I pulled the fan hub off to see if I could slow down the leak until I could find the time to replace the case. I didn't pull the cover, just siliconed the crack.

Drove the truck for 3 months until the temps dropped to 10 degrees one day. The oil was cold, bypassing the filter. What I would have found if I pulled the cover, was a piece of the case floating around the gears, making aluminum. The aluminum bypassed the filter and plugged up the #6 piston nozzle. Melted #6 piston as a result.

Yeah, I get it. Ive been out of town for six months for the military and never got a chance to tear it apart. That being said, it will be fixed right now.

I'm right there with ya buddy! Just starting to put mine back together

It was a good time to knock out a TON of issues!! I adjusted the timing as well... I cannot wait to drive it...

I'll never understand why this still happens to people

I've gotten lucky on the first two 12 valves I've had. The one that got me has lower miles than the first two. Was always something I was going to take care of. Just never had the time. The only time I get a chance to do anything to the damn thing is when it won't go anymore. I've had valve springs, 4k gsk, and studs sitting on the shelf for two years before I the KDP "gave" me time to put them in.

Off subject but, did you pull the motor to paint the block?

Didn't remove the engine.. I had the oil pan and cylinder head off though. Also, I have the entire front end apart which made it easier. I left the engine in the truck is cause my shop is cluttered enough as it is. I removed all accessories and brackets, cleaned, prepped and painted.

Huh, what paint did you use? Looks real nice on that block and timing cover.
Ive painted a couple parts with some flat aluminum stuff, but it doesnt last long with greasy fingers and solvents being sprayed on stuff.
All this makes me glad I did the KDP when I first got the truck. Some major work there after its come loose.

40 minutes and 40 dollars...

there's always time and money

It wouldn't have cost me a dime to tab it. Ive had three of these trucks so far and this one is the first to do it. I should have fixed it sooner. Next one WILL get fixed.

Thanks!! :Cheer: I'll see which paint it was exactly on Wednesday when I get back to my shop.

To the Original Poster... Depending on how badly it's damaged, You could have it fixed like I did.
