I'm thinking of using a detroit diesel for a pull truck engine.Do you think that the old 2 stroke will do any good?No hp but tons of torque and love the sound of them.

well almost all classes designate it has to come in a 1 ton or less vehicle. Unless you are doing brush pulls then go for it.

For what class?
I think a 4-71 weighs a little over 2,000 lbs...6-71 is ~2600?

there are some guys out in the plains states that are running them in some old 40's style trucks, you may look at trying to find some aluminum block 8V-92's, they are substantially lighter than the steel ones, if you need it, i got a complete tear down and rebuild of a 8V-92T detroit in PDF format.......and make sure you get the T models cause they make more power......

here is a picture of a pulling tractor running 2 detroits......

I'd do it just for the sound... and to be different! :Cheer:

go to youtube and typ in super modified diesels in idaho falls and that will answer your question!!!

X2 8V92, But if you like the sound, Supercharge a Powerstroke, or a duramax, you will get the same sound.

yeah but it just dosent have the same effect as an old Screamin Demon Detroit.......

what about using one of these for an engine???? too bad they aint diesel......

for reference that is a regular size mustang.......

I've seen a 6v53 in a ton low hp loads of torque.Maybe a v8 in a 2 ton 50's chevy or dodge?

Ya we have two of them that pull with us here in Idaho / Utah.

2 Psycho and I can't remember the other trucks name. They are pretty awesome to hear and watch.

They are great. I love the sound and they are cool to drive (once in a while) but the overwhelming fact remains... they are gutless turds!!:hehe::hehe:

Especially on a pulling track they start out great but as soon as the weight moves up it will fall on its face. If you plan on winning I would steer away from a 2 stroke detroit.$.02
