I don't post here to much but thought I'd throw my mystery out and see who knows what.
A couple of months ago after a cam and valve spring install, 70 miles after, at 1300 rpm and off the throttle my truck started knocking. Loud and definative knocking, truck still ran smooth, but knocked like hell... Checked valve height, seemed good. Checked push rods, valve lashings, added rocker studs, pulled the pan and inspected bottom end, everything looked perfect. After a few long discussions with some good brains in the diesel arena, I heard scuffed cylinder wall over and over. And resigned to the idea that I was in need of a rebuild.
Yesterday, my buddy fired up my truck to move it out of his way (its at his shop) and after knocking for 30 seconds it just stopped knocking, nice and smooth though out the RPM range... Still gonna pull the head and have it worked, and we're thinking valve seat now, but, anyone have input? Thoughts?
