going to my first brush pull and was wondering how everyone launched? my truck is a 96 12v with a sps66, 191s, ne435s, nv4500, sb3600dd, and 3.55s. what is the proper launch technique? slipping with brakes on till desired boost? when do i let the clutch fully out? i have 315 bfg mts with about 50% tread on em. thanks!

Don't worry about the brakes, the sled will allow you to make boost. I'd say bring your r's up, then start to let off the cluth while continuing to bring more fuel, then when you feel like it is going to go...remove foot from clutch and try to put your right foot through the floor board. It's a seat-o-the-pants kinda thing.

The gear selection will be your hardest choice. Do you want to pull in 3lo, or 2 hi? You can definetly stay on top of your charger in 3low. But I feel it is to slow of a gear.

you could pull in 4 lo if you hade some decent gears instead of those road racer gears

3rd lo. bring it up to 4k start to ease out the clutch. Imagine the tires making one full revolution and cut it loose, hammer down on the loud petal and have fun.

You will never be able to run high 2nd especially with those tires. My buddy runs a similar setup with a silver66 and fullcuts with 4.10 gears high 2nd and 235/85 courser ct and depending on the track he might still snuff out. High 2nd with 3.55 is like a 10.79 final.

The bigger the turbo the harder it will be to light and pull tall gears.

I run a 5 speed and 3.55 gears. I pull in low 3rd. I t is not the best gear but it is all we have. It worked good enough to squeak me into the finals at scheids for the 2.6 class.

Run 3rd low. You can come out somewhat conservative at around 3000 rpm's and don't dump the clutch just keep easing out steadily until you get the tires moving then floor it. With the 16.08:1 final drive ratio and 35's you'll never have a problem getting to full rpm's so no need shocking the system with a hard launch. My last setup I pulled with, I ran 2nd hi with 3.54's (10.76:1 final drive)and 33's for three years with a Redline, EZ, Scheid Lightning 1's, and a 62mm charger. This year (2009) was the first year of the three that I didn't make the finals @ Scheid but had a different setup than the years before. With that same setup I placed 9th in both '07 and '08 @ the TS Outlaw Pull. The gearing can be somewhat drove around to an extent with the right setup but don't expect to be at the top of the pack by any means unless pulling has not been in your area long. Everybody has different opinions on tires, gears, rpms, etc. but it really depends on the track setup vs. your truck setup. The biggest thing you should remember going into this is not expecting to win but to just go have fun. There is as much to driving the truck as there is to setting it up so your best bet is to just do it and learn what works and what doesn't. You can ask and read all you want on here or anywhere but never be able to understand or put it to use until you're out there a few dozen times to do a little testing and tuning and learn it for yourself.

3rd lo, come out easy, get rolling, floor it, have fun, and don't break! Just my $.02.
