I noticed the other week that I had just a couple drops of antifreeze on the garage floor. Thought nothing of it really until yesterday when I drove a short distance and parked. I was just slowly raining down from the front of the motor leaving a small puddle. I looked under it and couldnt pin point exactly where it was coming from but, its on the very front of the motor. Im hoping its just the water pump but, what are some ideas and things to look for. Freeze plugs look dry, radiator hoses are dry, and so on. The motor is wet just on the front and is all over the passenger wheel. The leak is spraying everything wet from the water pump down covering the a/c compressor and everything on the passenger side. Im hoping its not a head gasket but let me know what you think. Only about 140000miles on it. Thanks for any ideas you have.

sounds like the water pump..
if its not the water inlet or outlet
its the water pump.

Cool, thats what I was thinking/hoping for. Everything is dry on the inlet and outlet sides of things. Does anyone have any pictures of cliping the fins on the water pump?? Would this even be needed on just a daily driver or is it recommended only for pullers who spin high rpm? Another idea I have is possibly just going to and electric pump. Who sells them and opinions are welcome. Is there a diffent belt that needs to be run with an electric?
thanks

the electric pumps i have seen the idler is still on the pump. if you drive it everyday you don't want to clip the fins, or get an electric. at worst you would just get a coolant bypass.. especially if you tow.

Actually that cylindrical object is the electric motor. You have to run the belt around the water pump.
you are absolutely correct.... i could have sworn i saw one that used an idler pulley still, months ago now, heck it may not have even been for a cummins..
thanks for the heads up

Not a problem - just didn't want you guys to start smoking belts when the motor doesn't spin like the pulley LOL

So I just got around to pulling the water pump and noticed that the weap hole or seep hole is just open is there suposed to be a plug in that??

its open from the outside and goes to the bearing area behind the seal.
if its weeping the seal on the shaft is bad..
gotta change out pump

i put a new pump on it didnt really see any signs of much so we will see tomorrow thanks for the help
