I'm stoked!! Picked up a 98 12v 4x4 5sp dually for a price you all would hate me at. We are going to build this to 2.6 rules but probably hit up the brushpulls too. I've already run through the parts list a million times over in my head and it changes every time! I just wanted to throw this up here to get opinions and advice along the way. Ill take parts for stickers too:hehe:

The current plan is to pull the motor because it does have a knock and excessive blowby. I plan on running a balanced stock bottom end with a little extra piston to wall clearance. Pistons will most likely have at least the skirts coated. The head will have some p&p but nothing crazy, stock as cast intake. Still trying to decide o-ring or fire ring. One definate thing will be the cam and springs, Zach's stuff is going to be in there! For the turbo I'm looking towards a S465. I'll probably have CDS play with the pump a little bit but I don't know if I want to use the 215 on it or use the 180 off my 95. I do know it's going to be able to spink 5k+ rpm, not that I need it to just want it to if I so decide. Maybe if I'm lucky I can get Weston to make up a set of injectors for it.....

Let's have fun with this one and I'll try to keep current pics. People looking to startup pulling can hopefully use this as a starting point. Here is what she looked like when I picked her up.:rockwoot:

Oh and the previous owner's sister said I should keep the name "Black Pearl" but I'm thinking it should be blacked out and carry the name "Murdered Out". LOL

I was thinkin short with big hips....me and Heath might be fightin over that one!! LOL

I would go with a set of 4.88 gears and run 4th low. Don't even mess with a dual disk and go ahead and get a triple, unless you plan on rebuilding or replacing the clutch every half season or every winter depending on how many hooks you plan on making. Kenny's Pulling Parts has a nice triple disk for around the same cost as most dual disk clutches. A set of 5x.018 injectors and some pump work should be a good setup on a budget build. Go ahead and upgrade the axles and rear yolk while your at it. On the fire rings or o-rings, i have heard good and bad on both. It more on preference. Fire Rings seem to be a little more frustrating and picky, but when installed and setup right they should out do the o-rings.

The truck already has 4.10's so keeping in the budget mindset i'm going to run those untill it's absolutely necessary to go to lower ratio. I figure a 33" truxus or bfg all terrain will
make a 4.10 work well. I'll have to
look into the kenny's clutch but do already have a predisposition to SBC because of past use and just to ruffle someone in particular's feathers. LOL

Looks like a good build project. I am working on something similar in the form of a 96 2500.

I plan on spending most of the money on drivetrain, clutch, and pump. I am doing gears like kino_fab said to keep my drivetrain intact (hopefully...?). There are a lot of parts to think about to try to be competitive while keeping it inside the walls of a budget.

Good luck.
