After knocking heads with a few people this is what I know. (applies to a VP head, going in a 2nd gen build)

12V gear case needs modified to align on the CR block

Oil gallies going from the head to rockers need modified

gear train needs swaped to non straight cut gears

Cant remeber what the headgasket needed was

Anybody care to add to this?

when i talked to zstroken he told me that there is what looks like steam ports that go form the block to the head which are not in the 5.9 head which isn't an issue for a dedicated puller but for a street driving truck it could cause some hot spots in the block

I say just build the 5.9. Proven set up and capable of providing more than you will ever be able to drive on the street.

Steam holes, I forgot about those. That wouldnt be a big deal to drill in the head. Very common on SBC 400's.

But I want more:bang

Besided the 5.9 is already sold.

The oil gallies don't need modified, for some reason the 6.7 and the VP 5.9 head were ok. On the 5.9CR head/head gasket blocks the oil gallies on the block. I suppose if you use a VP or 6.7 head gasket, you would be pressurizing the galley, so it could flow the oil. The issue with steam holes is you would have to decide which gasket to use. 5.9 would ahve to have steam holes put in it. This is all from memory, as I don't have the blocks/heads in front of me anymore.

What about the Rods are you going to use the Cracked Cap ones or buy aftermarket ones?

I know it can be done........Look for a P-pumped 6.7 with a 12v head this year, its alomost done now and should be sitting ina tube chassis pretty soon!!

If you want, Call Dave at Daves Diesel in Angola. Their Blue Pulling truck ran a P-pumnped 6.7 this year, but i never got around to asking them specifics about it....

I'm gonna talk to some people this weekend about the whole build.

Is there only one style of 6.7 pistons or do they make others? Like the VP RV pistons?

If your gonna go, go all out. Get some forged ones!

Then just build the 5.9. I don't think it is worth the extra cost then.

By some I mean 40 miles a week at MOST. Drive to the local cruise in, thats about it.

Roach wants to drive the truck on the road some so he can hear all the punk kids in their imports say "how did i just get outran by a diesel with tractor weights on the front?"

what are the differences between 12v, vp and cr rods, which are the best?
Thanks jake

The vp rods are forged, the cr rods are powdered metal, and I forgot what the 12v rods are. The vp rods are the best I believe.
