I know this subject has been touched on, just not exactly what i'm trying to do. here's what i'm wanting to do, but i'm not sure how hard it will be.
I want to level my truck(lower rear) i have 4 leafs plus a larger than normal pack of overloads. I'm wanting to take out 2 leafs, leave my overloads, and install Caltracs.

Is it possible? Which 2 leafs are the best to remove? Will i need a shorter bolt to go through the leaves( the current one will be too long-and isn't threaded enough to just cut it off

Thanks for any input

I'm wanting to level my 01 too, from everything I've been told, the easiest and cheapest way to do it and not sacrifice any riding comfort or suspension pieces is to install 1.5 inch spacers on the front. It won't be completely level, but pretty close. The spacers are like $50 bucks.

I took all but 2 leaves out of the back of my 2wd and it sits 1/2 inch higher in the rear than the front. Not going to tow much with that setup though. Didn't have to get different bolts, factory ones worked. You can cut them off if they are too long. Try some things and see how you like it to sit. You can always put them back in.
I would start from the bottom taking leaves out. and go from there.

i want to do that to my '02. i have been wondering what a leaf under would do? (moving the springs to the bottom side of the axle)

Main leaf and 1 more. 2 total. Remember my truck has no hitch on it anywhere. It is for going fast.

please don't lift your 2wd Cummins

I dont see a problem with leveling it. I already get asked if its a 4wd as it is. Bell tech makes a lowering kit. Or a 2 inch leveling kit with the right shocks wont be a problem. Its not like you are going to lift it and put 35s on it.

I'm not "lifting" it. I do however want it to sit more level. From everything I've read and everyone I've talked too it's less practical to lower the rear than it is to put the spacers in the front. 1.5 inches is hardly a "lift"

well, it sounded like you were confused... I said don't lift your 2wd, and you said you weren't lifting it, just raising the front

meanwhile, back on earth, that means you're lifting it, and that means you're queer as a $3 bill

Damn dude, it's harsh going that far over 1.5 inch spacers :shake:
I want to drop mine one day, more mileage of course =P

that's what I do... exagerate! :p

just saying I see no reason to lift the front. if anything lower the back, just don't use the truck as a truck or you'll run into the Ford "granny ass" / "dog with worms" look :(

im going to be redrilling and flipping my front hangers in addition to the shackles if i can ever get the damn thing back together!

the shackles made it stock after i ditched the bumper and spare. hopefully ill get the batteries back there one of these days too.

Forest after I put the spacers in I'll be sure and start a thread for you to bash on my ridiculously lifted gay looking 2wd ok?
