limp mode or possible something else

i have a 98.5 24 valve and it like goes in and out of limp mode were it wont rev over 2000 rpm it wasnt all the time it was every once in awhile untill the other day and the check engine light came on i had them ran. i changed the tps two months ago i just changed the map sensor and the crank position sensor. im not sure what it is any help would be greatly appreciated. the truck has raptor 150 and a edge comp box with hot unlocked
 
could it be the injection pump im not sure i just need to get the truck running right it hauls all the trailers for the farm
 
Key cycle wont show all possible codes stored. When my vp died on my 01 it showed no codes via the key cycle, scanner pulled the vp fault codes.

Interesting, my 99 doesn't.

Most chain parts stores will lend you a code reader for a deposit.

Hmmm most 99's I've seen won't... Maybe it's a late '99 and they started it in 2000? I read on here one time when they started that but I can't remember if it was 2000 or 2001....
 
Remove boxes and/ or programmers. Check for codes with a scanner. TPS could still be the issue, I've had bad ones right out of the box. Try resetting it. Could also be your ECM.
For some good reading check blue chip diesel's website. They have a diagnostics page with really good info.
