Did you break the carrier or the spider gears?

not for sure yet i know it got the spiders but im headed that was right now to see wat all it got...... friend of mine pulled the cover yesterday i was tryin to explain to him wat the needed to be lookin for he jus said there was stuff everywhere lol so i'll go look for myself tonight

Sounds like spider gears which are common in the LS apps.

hit it right on the money spider gears are shot

I know the feeling....did a pull off with a Megacab in Scottsville, KY one night. We both went out the gate twice...so they had these manual spikes on a ancient sled we were pulling and they turned them over so we were dragging from a dead stop. Mine hopped straight outta the hole and I shut er down.....drove mine home...with the azz end LEAPING around every corner  had no clue till I pulled the cover the next day. Now I have a D80 LS carrier with 2 busted spiders just taking up room in my shop. Oh...they mega threw his carrier bearing and had to call a trailer!LOL:owned:

Good luck on the new gears 4.88s and 4 lo is the direction I'm headed soon. 3rd low & 3.55's just isn't enuf to win anymore!

haha this weekend we made three diff shows hooked three diff nights and luckly made it till sat night befor it decided to go lol...... but hey i am i right with 4.88s 4lo to run with 33s for my best wheel speed??? that was wat i was thinkin cuz everybody runs 5.13s with 35s right?? i wanna stay with 33's maybe save some breakage but i was wantin to make sure 4.88s would still let me stay in 4lo some people have tried tellin me thats not enough gear

i was hopein somebody would come in with a little ratio deal so i could see..... i read for about 2 hours yesterday on search and never found wat i wanted to see:doh:

4.88s is perfect for 33s you only need 5.13s if you wanna run 35s or BIG rpm with 33s.

3.55+3rd low=16.02 final drive meaning SLOW!
4.88+4th low=13.42 or 13.22 can't remember exactly right now. But its A LOT faster and more rpm. GrimmJeeper.com has a ratio calculator just select NV4500 and NP241 from the drop down bars ;)

Ha! Want wheel speed? Try 2nd hi with your 3.54's and 33's. 10.76:1 final drive.

tried it...... no good 150ft choked out... tracks around here hook preaty hard might could on a realy lose track take some weight off

I tried it for S n Gs one night as an exhibition hook after the pull was over had to dump the clutch to keep it lit because R's dropped quick as soon as I started out of the clutch. Pressure spike must have been huge to blow my O ringed HG. It ran like a raped ape tho! Went 10ft farther than my 1st run! But not trying that again, plus hi side is more likely to break.

ive done some changes since i tried that lot bigger injector and stuff it might do little better now but not gonna chance it goin on with 4.88s to get that 4lo

I'm in the exact same boat as you are. I can turn 4200 rpm down the track in 3rd low with my 33" tire ( bout 25mph wheel speed) and I'm way slower than everyone else is. I'm gathering parts now for my swap to 4.88's, should pic up arround 4 mph of wheel speed!

here is a good thread with wheel speed calc's

Not sure where here is but I don't think Kentucky has a loose track. I'm RPM limited so short of bouncing off the rev limiter, I have to run 2nd hi. Been running it since '07. Also on what I believe is my 4th trans rebuild since then too. Imagine that. Got an in cab video of 2nd hi in another post so I could see my RPM's down the track as well as other gauges. It doesn't like it but it chugs along for a little while.

I guess I'll be going to 4.10 here soon but if I had my choice I'd like to go to a 4.30 so that for a tighter track i can still run 2nd hi but if I could ever find a somewhat loose track like the ones we used to pull on in Ohio, I could run 4th lo. Still a little high geared but anything would be better than what I have now.
