LLY EGR Block off

I have a 04 LLY. I bought it from a landscaping company and Im sure they left it idling alot. Its been running a little ruff on bottom end and also sitting at a redlight the rpms kinda go up and down a little.. Someone recommended to me to get a egr block off plate. What exactly does it do? Will it help any any? I was looking around and found some on ebay for like 10 bucks. Also found this. Do I need this?

Yes a blocker is a good idea, although probably will do nothing for your rough running. It will prevent soot and exhaust gas from being reintroduced to your intake.

Check out Kennedy Diesel for the original blocker plate/code blocker solution.

The code blocker link you posted is not the original, but I would love to see their "detailed installation instructions" to see if any of the pictures look familiar...

When installing the block off plate do I need to try to clean any of the build up out?

No, I put the Kennedy one in, you don't have to clean anything and I have no leaks. The nuts are just really tight and in a bad spot.
