I would like to know what is out there in something larger than a 285 in a 16 inch tire in a load range E.

I tow a decent amount with the truck and want a taller tire to change some gearing, but need an E range.

Pro Comp and Mickey Thompson make E range tires in various sizes over a 285.

Toyo open country m/t's. I think they make a 295-75-16 which isn't any wider than the 285 I think. I have them in a 315-75-16 and I don't think they are any wider than the 285 bfg's I got on my excursion. Load range E. I like them alot and they got no sound and wear good and all I have done since I put them on is tow. 10k still look new.

Do you tow with them? What size wheel will they fit on? 6.5" rim?

Yeah I towed about 10k miles with them and still look new. Mine are on the stock Dodge chrome wheels. They are on the Dodge in my avatar. They are
7" wide I believe. Are you wanting to put these on dually wheels? I have been thinking of making mine into a dually but not sure if I want to put them on dually wheels. I am pretty sure I am going to use regular wheels with a long adapter in between them. These toyo's got the heaviest load rating that I saw when I was looking.

I thought the stock dodge were 6.5, they might be 7". Can you measure the height of the tire installed. My dilema is with 285s toying I just can't run in 6th gear without EGT's getting hot. 5th gear at 70 is like 2500. If I could get down to 5th gear at like 2250 at 70mph, I would be in pretty good shape. I just don't want the truck to tow like crap. I currently am running 285/75/16 D range. They haven't worn very well. Probably about 20K and I am guessing they are half gone. Do you have any rub problems with the 315 on the truck?

The wheel width depends on the year...the older chromed steel wheels were 6.5" wide and the newer aluminum ones are 8" wide.

Thanks, that is what I was referring too. I don't have the aluminum ones, as they are prone to cracking under heavy side loading(i.e. gooseneck trailers)

Just wanting to see who has put the 315/75 on the older chrome wheels.

Ante up for a set of 19.5 rims with 245/70 R 19.5's and be done with tire purchasing for the next 80k. If the truck lives with a trailer behind it you will not find anything else that will wear as well. You could also go with a 265/70 R19.5 which is a touch taller, usually around a 35.5 or so but narrow enough you don't have any rubbing issues. With 3.54's in my truck 6th at 2000rpm was good for 77mph, 1800 nets about 70 and it would tow 16k of fifth wheel there all day long.

I would like to, but I just can't see putting $2,000+ into tires for a truck. Maybe my pyro is off, cause anything below 2000 rpm in 6th with 285 the truck can get toasty on the EGT's. If I put it at 2200+ it will chug right along.

man, Toyo MT's may be quite compared to boggers or something, but I wouldn't call them quiet!

This is the first m/t style tire I have ever owned and inside the truck I cannot hear them at all. Windows up or down all I hear is the truck.

They measure 34 3/4" or around 34.7". I haven't measured the chrome stockers but on car-part the dually wheels are 16x6, Gray steel are 16x6.5, Chrome steel are 16x6.5, Aluminum are 16x8. You were right. I stand corrected soooo The 315's fit reallllly good on a 16x6.5. There is no rub issue's in the front at full turn either way. The tires got a pretty deep lug but are close together and like I said above THEY don't have any noise. I would say you could get near 40k out of a set towing. Just an assumption.

careful man, I think those stacks are making you deaf! :p

Them stacks very well could be but I think the stack on my 12v is making me more deaf than the 24v. But still I have talked two other guys into trying out those toyo m/t's, One a ford f-150 and the other a 3rd gen cr and they both agreed on how quiet the tires are. Maybe they are deaf too.

I appreciate the info, if you have any more pics of them mounted on your truck I would like to see them. Do you have lift blocks in the front?

i run the Toyo AT's.....285's and i have about 80k+ miles on them and love them

next set will be Toyo's 305's "E"

Yes I do have 2" spacers in the front.

These are the best pics I got.
