Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. IMHO its just a temp bandaid.

How much we talking? I been thinking about brazing and then use there bracket they use to help support.

You may as well whip out the mig welder or some JB Weld because once those blocks crack they only continue to get worse. The only time I've seen them be of any good is in a sled pulling application where they're filled or ran without coolant.

If you haven't yet you should google "53 block" and do some reading.

I have read that method, to each his own I guess but the only way I see welding grey cast which that's what our blocks are made from is to use bronze. To my knowlege your not going to control distortion with a 2500 degree welding rod.
The old days of bring the block up to 900 degree, repair then slowly bring down temp over 8 hour period is the only way I know.

Do a search, Ive posted details about L$S.

Bottom line, it kept ours going from 100,000 to 280,000, but had to do it twice. New block is in now.

Cummins left you nothing to work with, forget the brazing, get another block.

my 53 had 13 inches of crack started at 3 inches cant complain tho that was between 90k and 150k replacing it is the best way to fix it i learned that the hard way

i just went through all of this and tryed everything glad u didnt waist ur time new block is the only way to go... sucks but thats all there is to it.:bang

I hear that but for not knowing about the 53 block deal when i bought it and getting 60k out of it. It worked long enough to pay for its self. Trust me if I knew then what I know now. I would have never even considered a VP truck!!

When mine cracked I considered L&S, but found a block for the same price. Kind of a no brainer, even for me.
