Sometimes when mine hits OD when im light on the throttle my turbo will bark. Kinda funny for people riding with me.

so is that just something i have to deal with? my old little 40 never did that. when make my shift points higher it helps

thats not bark thats surge, and its really bad for the turbo.

theres a few ways to fix it.

bigger turbine wheel
bigger turbine housing
smaller compressor wheel

simplest one in my book if it only does it when the trans locks up is to put lock up on a switch and do it a few hundred rpm later than the pcm would

I would say that it is turbo bark. Ive heard a couple of trucks do the same thing, even with a stock turbo. Usually at part throttle it will occur especially if the fluid coupling of the converter is pretty loose. When the converter locks it immediately pulls the RPM down (the looser the fluid coupling in the converter the greater difference there will be in RPM when the converter locks), and the air in the intake tract has no where to go since the engine suddenly isnt turning enough RPM to accept it.
As far as fixing the problem, Im not sure what to tell you except just keep it wide open LOL

Are you running any type of lock up controller? If you cant adjust lock up with a controller, you will need to get a tighter converter. I had this same problem with my 2200rpm stall, great for racing but not good for street driving.

I would have to agree with teddybear, Look at the rpm as it locks up. I bet its dropping 400+rpm your looking for 250 or less for good street manners.

i have to figure this out soon.the turbo is 2 days old. i will check rpm drop when it locks.no controller.

Only time mine barks is when I'm at WOT using my lockup switch through all 4 gears. Otherwise it never barks.

My 01 does the same thing. Edge, Smarty, 100HP sticks, ATS 3000 and ATS tranny. Happens at mid as well. If I roll out of the throttle or if its on the floor it doesnt do it.

i am going to run the rpm's up in every gear, and see what happens.and add a lock up switch if i cant make it work.

Mine does the same thing if I am running about 15 psi when it shifts into O/D. I had to learn how to "drive around" the barking. Only now mine will bark at 1500 rpm and above 20 psi when in O/D. At 1850 rpm I can hit 34 psi and no bark.

thats my conclusion, learn how to drive it.when i am in the city/country i turn the od off.when i hit the big road i ease into it or hammer it.this truck is fun to drive now it really boogies.

Imagine the bark of a HX52 67/70/16 at 65lb of boost...it's way worse than any S300 LOL

i am thinking a great dane that smokes a pack a day ?LOL

It would be more like the dog you described sneezing 5 or 6 times in a row...a bark is a little deep! :hehe:

I just added a lot more fuel and the noise mysteriously disappeared! LOL
