Lock-up switch light?

I just finished a lock up switch on my 04.5 and I want to put a led in to come on when the switch is activated how is this done? if the switch is to ground the # 7 wire how do you get a reference off it to activate a led light?

Thanks Jared...

use the switch as the ground and run power to the light when the switch is turned on it will ground the tc and the light.

I tried the same thing with a led at eye level but it references ground when the TC locks on its own when driving regularly w/o the switch activated? I may have to reverse wire a lighted switch and put the 12v source on the ground sied of the lighted switch. I was trying to put the led at eye level where it was obvious to me that it was locked.

As of know I ran a ground with a 33ohm resistor to a switch and from the switch to the # 7 pin on tranny with a wire breaking off on the tranny side going to a led and the other side of the led to a 12v source. The problem is when tranny is in regular drive mode and the TC locks at higher speeds in drive it activates the led also so I have to look at it all the time on the highway... Any other suggestions?

put a switch on the light so that the light only comes on when the switch for the light is on and the lock up switch is on? lol thats confusing. kinds of like running nitrous off a hobbs and a full throttle switch? im horrible with wiring so i dont know where to start on how to do it, just thought the same concept might work

Just get an LED switch. It'll have three posts on it. All you have to do is ground the LED post and it will come on when the switch sees current. I don't know a way around it coming on when the truck locks up in forth when the switch is not on though. You may have to live with that.

If you decide to not go with a switch that has the LED built into it, here's a drawing/setup that Don Thuren came up with using a typical Bosch 30 amp relay. I copied this on my '05 and have a tiny switch in arms reach and my led light is off to the side. Here's a link to the write-up, click here

Mine does the same thing but it comes on dim when it activates on its own and brite when I turn on the switch. I tried to wire in a diode that would only allow the ground signal to only go one way. Obviously it didn't work. But I guess I got lucky since it comes on dim when it locks up on its own.

I bought a 12v relay and will wire it up with that and report later...

Right on! I have the stupid tow/haul switch instead of the OD on/off switch on my '05 so I decided to get the BD Lockout Controller for towing and mounted that along with my relay for the lockup switch behind where the AC controls are...there is a pretty good open space behind there. I put the lockup switch to the left of the lighter so it's kinda outta the way and won't accidentally be pressed but still easy to reach. Then I put the two LED lights in one of the unused spots next to the heated seat controls. Red light is for lockup and orange light is for lockout.

That's how mine is wired and that's what it does but it also works as a lock up switch light because it stays on when you flip the switch. I wired mine that way for diagnostic reasons.

you cannot put just any LED across 12V. You have to use a current limiting resistor.

I think they do make "special" 12V LED's now, if you don't want to put a resistor in line, then that is what you need to use.

Just curious, my buddy has a 12V and i have a commonrail, do you wire the lockout switch the same as you would with the 12V, or is the wiring completely different?

Looks to me like a double pole single throw switch would have saved you the trouble.

Maybe i'm looking at it wrong.

-Wiring is the same concept but the wire you ground is a different pin at the ECM.. Some people are tapping in at the trans on the 48RE's
